In Chicago, the baseball competition is fierce, and the team that has been playing the game longest in Chicago is the Chicago Cubs. In 1871, the Cubs joined the first professional baseball league, the National Association, as the White Stockings. Through the years, the Cubs have won two World Series(1907 and 1908) and sixteen National League pennants. The team also has the longest streak without a World Series win, at 98 years. The last time the Cubs won the pennant was in 1945. The closest they have come to winning a World Series lately came in 2003, when they made it to the NLCS. The rivalry between the Sox and the Cubs continues to this day. For two weekends in the summer, the city shuts down, many people miss work, and both sides try to explain to the other why their side is better. |
