Though Chicago throws a major parade for just about every holiday, the 4th of July is the exception. Instead, it holds a huge fireworks show in it's place.

Chicago usually holds the fireworks on July 3rd. This is also usually the end of the Taste of Chicago. The whole city shuts down to watch the amazing fireworks display over the lake. Many people pack Grant and Lincoln park to watch the spectacle. Also, many people with boats head just offshore to enjoy the show from as close as they can get.
