Grant Park is 319 acres of land set aside along Lake Michigan. The park was founded in 1844 when citizens demanded that land be set aside from development. The park contains the Adler Planetarium, the Millennium Park, the Shedd Aquarium, the Field Museum of Natural History, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Grant Park also contains the beautiful Buckingham Fountain. Every year the Taste of Chicago takes place in Grant Park. In 2005, 3.5 million people attended.
