The front of the Museum of Science and Industry

The Museum of Science and Industry was established in 1926 by Julius Rosenwald. Rosenwald wanted a museum that would teach people through interaction with exhibits. The museum is housed in the only building surviving from the 1893 World Columbian Exposition, the former Fine Arts Building.

This museum has something for everyone and will entertain almost everyone since the museum is very "hands on." One of the largest exhibits is an actual World War II German submarine that was shipped to the museum. The German sub is the only one to be captured during WWII. Other exhibits include: Genetics: Decoding Life, which shows how genetics impact human development; the Mercury Atlas 7 capsule from a rocket ship; and the Apollo 8 capsule, which took astronauts on the U.S.'s first lunar orbit mission. This museum is not only educational, its entertaining.
