Purdue has a long history of attending bowl games in college football post-season play. Purdue's first bowl game was the 1967 Rose Bowl. Since then the Purdue football team, joined by the band, has traveled to the the 1978 Peach Bowl, 1979 Bluebonnet Bowl, the 1980 Liberty Bowl and the 1984 Peach Bowl. In recent years during the Joe Tiller era, the Purdue Football Team and Purdue "All-American" Marching Band have traveled to the 1997 Alamo Bowl, the 1998 Alamo Bowl, the 2000 Outback Bowl, the 2001 Rose Bowl, the 2001 Sun Bowl, the 2002 Sun Bowl, the 2004 Capital One Bowl, the 2004 Sun Bowl, the 2006 Champs Sports Bowl and most recently at the 2007 Motor City Bowl.
Many people make the assumption that the band simply just shows up and puts on a good show. The truth is, the band works very hard to prepare a half-time show for the bowl game with much of the work and preparation occurring on the actual bowl trip and not during regular season rehearsal. However, even with the intense daily rehearsals during the bowl trip and only $100 per diem, we manage to have a good deal of fun too. We often create our own entertainment with fun activities like Pool Hail at the hotel! Plus, we usually get into fun attractions like Universal Studios and Disney World. With a long season of hard practices and many game day performances, bowl trips are a very nice end to our season.
