Philanthropy

Pictures Two main purposes to philanthropy:

  • To provide service to keep our humanistic properties in order.
  • For sisterhood growth and enrichment.
As a Delta Zeta member you will devote time and effort to helping where there is a need. Working together as sisters will enable each of you to learn the importance of each person doing her part; thus, becoming a responsible part of the group. Your service is a part of a long and proud history of Delta Zeta service to others, and you are helping to carry on an important tradition of Delta Zeta. Delta Zeta participates in the most philanthropies here on campus. We participate in three main philanthropies:
  • Turtle Tug with Sigma Phi Epsilon ( Sororities and Fraternities pair off in a large tug of war)
  • Christmas Party with the Hannan House (The children from this organization come to our house and participate in games and receive Christmas gifts)
Bowl-A-Rama (Different fraternities participate in a bowling and karyoke contest)
One Delta Zeta sister notes, "Philanthropy is a great opportunity for DZ sisters to do something amazing for those less fortunate, while strengthening and enjoying their sisterhood."
In 1954, Delta Zeta adopted Gallaudet College (now University) in Washington, D.C. as their national philanthropy benefactor. This is the only university in the world devoted exclusively to the deaf and has a primary school, a secondary school, and an institution of higher learning. Originally, our project was to help furnish the school library; this was accomplished by 1960. As the cost of Gallaudet increased, so did the need for assistance in other fields. Delta Zeta will continue to assist Gallaudet as long as there is a need.
