Teaching Journals and Reflections
I strongly believe that teachers should regularly reflect on their teaching experiences. The world of education contains its constant learning experiences, as do all professions. There are always days when I watch my students leave the classroom and wonder to myself, "what happened?" It is only through constant reflection that I can improve my instruction, and so I make a habit of keeping journals that analyze my strategies and their effectiveness. Informal though they may be, they allow me to vent, to consider, and to innovate, and I consider them an integral part of my identity as a teacher. Below are a few samples of my reflections. Pre-teaching Journals: This link will take you to journals from my pre-teaching years. I produced these during my final year at The University of Illinois during my student teaching and other early field experiences. Secondary Reflections: This link will take you to journals from my secondary teaching position. These journals reflect on my experiences at the middle school where I teach. Introduction to Composition Journals: This link will take you to journals from my teaching at Purdue University, where I teach English 106, Introduction to Composition. |
