Watched--> Desperate Housewives 'bout time we had some new episodes
Listened--> Panic! at the Disco A Fever You Can't Sweat Out - GREAT DISK! Catchy rythms, fresh sound.. very Fall-Out-Boy-esque. Only bad part of the CD is that it's way too short... 4.8 outta 5.0
Reading--> The Da Vinci Code Dan Brown - So Dark the Con of Man

It's Spring Break! Freedom from classes, school, meetings, and homework (haha.. not really). Is it sad that I'm doin homework over Spring Break? gr...

Well, the last week of school was pretty much a disaster.. I wasn't in the greatest of moods, so sorry if I came accross crappy to anyone. I know I failed one exam, but I think I did pretty well on my last one. My last exam being on Friday from 4:30-5:30... you don't know how much that sucked. I had the rest of my classes cancelled that day except for that dumb exam Friday afternoon... gr...

Haven't done too much else since. I've had a really bad headache for the past few days. My parents suggest it's from getting too much sleep. I think they are probably right lol. When you normally get 5-6 hours a night and suddenly get 10 hours a night, I'm sure that has some effect on the ol' body. I love sleep though...

So far, I've done just about nothing over break. I did actually start working out and running this week. It was a heck of a lot colder outside than I thought it was. The cold air just ate at my throat and I had like a minor asthsma attack or something b/c I couldn't breathe at all. I think I'm goin to run indoors until it's like summer out... (and, no, that wasn't some lame excuse that I'm outta shape...)

Well, this post was short and pointless, so how about I add something that'll make people mad? This next part is for you Tracie...

I just wanna say that I absolutely can't stand country music. (DISCLAIMER: If the previous statement has already caused a wave of emotion in the negative sort, please calmly stop reading. ThEDGE and any of its affliates are not responsible for any behavoir after the reading of this paragraph. Please Use your eyes and mind at your own risk.)

Okay, it's not like I haven't given it a chance. And, Tracie, you even agreed with some of my points after listening to like an hour of it non-stop, driving around downtown Lafayette. Tell me if I'm wrong, but almost all country music has to do with a little word called al-co-hol (I said almost, which implies MOST, not all). Sitting back and drinking and thinking about the "good ol' days" in the most twangy, annoying voice you could ever imagine. Isn't that what country is? I mean, if you like that stuff, more power to you. I don't know how you could listen to annoying voices singing about their drinking as something for your enjoyment, but if you have enough will-power to, well, good for you. When listening to the "Greatest (I dunno who in their right mind would call this stuff great, but I'll move on) Country Hits" or something like that... every song that I heard had a reference to drinking, getting, drunk, or implied having done something of the sort. One song was called alcohol.. another song was about getting drunk and doin stuff so stupid in Mexico, that it should just be left in Mexico. (See, Tracie.. I did listen to the lyrics as I was making fun of 'em) I mean, did everyone see that Kenny Chesney wouldn't play a BENEFIT concert at a place b/c he found out it was a DRY bar? (I'll give him credit for still donating proceeds.. but seriously folks.. does that just not prove my point?) Song after song.. I heard the same thing. Each time with a different, but equally annoying twangy voice. What's worse about country music is the remakes that they try so awfully hard to do... and RUIN. Notice how country music now has electric guitars and hard driving beats and fast lyrics? They are trying to search for an audience by making it more like rock and rap to drain more people into their trap. It's like country artists are the outcast group trying to be cool... but, guess what.. it'll never be cool in my book. My name is Eric, and I'm not an alcoholic.. nor a country music fan. (<-- both mean the same thing) You all have your rights to your taste of music, and I am in NO means supporting the "Hump Lump" song or any of today's music.. I'm just stating what I believe is fact in my point of view. Okay.. I'm finished. I did tell Tracie there were one or two songs that I could stand in the country genre.. why could I stand them? There were no mentions of getting drunk, and no overly twangy voice. And, now that all country music fans hate me now.. they are probably like, "Eric, if you think country is so bad.. then what do you think is good music?". Glad you asked.. Listed for your enjoyment are some of my favorite artists and songs.. all of it good natured, catchy, not completely dealing with alcohol, sex, or drugs.. and, well, since I enjoy it, it's very good stuff.

My favs are Three Doors Down, AFI, Linkin Park, Fall Out Boy, Blink-182, Foo Fighters. For a lighter side, Jack Johnson, John Mayer, Yellowcard, Coldplay, Something Corporate, the Ataris, Jimmy Eat World. For an old-school feel, Aerosmith, Beatles. For lesser known stuff, Panic! at the Disco, Fenix TX, SR-71, Box Car Racer. All show-tune stuff is pretty good, as well as movie scores (Pearl Harbor, Lord of the Rings are my favs) Classical, Pictures at an Exhibition, Planets, George Winston just bout anything else there as well. I'm not saying that I have the best taste in music and that all country music (and listeners) are bad people.. I just wanna back up why I think it's awful. And now that people are mad, I invite you to leave a comment, by clicking the link below.

Yee-haw to that, folks! I'm out.

Coming up... A lot of nothing this week... Mc Musical Saturday night... PESC Sports Tourney and ENvision coming soon...

The Siets--> I was raised on country music and can sing word for word most every song made between 1986 and 2000.

However what's caused me to give up country music more than the twangy voice and simplistic lyrics (which I admit are both horrible) is the dogma.

Lately every song contains one or more of these key buzz words: bible, freedom, America, flag, soldier, heaven, patriot. I'm all for political music, but it's better suited to those who are outside of the mainstream to use for protest.

If I want to hear all about patriotic churchgoers, I'll go to a family reunion not listen to the radio.

Excellent post Eric.

The Wong--> Country music fans have tried to convert me. All efforts have failed. And I'm thankful they have failed. What's with all the songs talking about Mexico? I just don't get it...

Tracie--> I'm glad I started such a insightful thought process from you, Eric. Even with the minor typos throughout the piece, it was very coherent. And while I disagree with you, it's nice to see another perspective. As for me, I enjoy country music because I, personally, can listen to a country song and understand every word that is sung. Also, I can connect almost every country song to a memory I have; furthermore, I feel that country music provides an outlet for me because most country songs that I enjoy are lighthearted. As for the music you enjoy, I would also have to say that I enjoy most of the same. However, in regards to almost all country music being about drinking, I would remind you that Aerosmith has many lyrics that are just about equal to drinking i.e. "Pink" for one. But I still love Aerosmith. Those are my 10 cents.

kyle--> hey, man, glad to hear that you were able to catch up on sleep finally over break! I hear ya, I love sleep so much... it's so wonderful... wouldn't it be nice if there was a day like once a month or something where no one was allowed to do anything all day but stay in bed and do nothing but sleep or watch t.v. or read or something?

Haha, I think you already know what I'm going to say about the country music thing, lol. I will say that you did make some good points, but I think that you can say all country music songs are about alcohol just as easily as you can say all pop rock songs on the radio are about sex and relationships and clubbin' and all punk rock music is about being depressed, hating life, and sometimes even wanting to kill yourself. I also might add that most of the country singers that mention alcohol are over the age of 21 anyway, and even though there are some that mention alcohol that's being consumed by underage drinkers, songs such as "Alcohol" by Brad Paisley point out how stupid Alcohol makes you and all the bad things that can occur if you drink it. I will admit, though, that there are songs about underage drinking and not having any remorse about it, but what do you do? Not all country music is great... just like you don't like every punk rock band, I don't like every country band.

Oh, and one more thing... what do you thing goes on at half of the concerts of the bands that you listed off, lol. I'm pretty sure alcohol and drugs are everywhere, even if they aren't in the lyrics of your favorite song...

kudos for you, though, for putting up all your thoughts about it! It was interesting to read :-)

kyle--> oh, yeah, and I was gonna add to my comment I left a couple of days ago... I finished the Da Vinci Code and it's really really good. What do you think of it so far?
