The STORY OF THE WEEK (The STEW)
is some long, dumb story involving some short dumb guy...

So, I today, or I guess in my previous post, I told a lie... But it wasn't really a lie.. it was.. well.. let me explain...
i told you last time that i was going to play in another tennis tournament this weekend. Well, that didn't happen.... (for an account of last tournament click here)
why? you ask... well, because it got cancelled. Everyone saw my name signed up on the list and they were afraid that they'd get pummeled.. heh.. or something like that.. maybe..
anyway, we didn't play. My sister's wrist was bothering her really badly, so she withdrew, which left us with nothing to do all day Saturday. Well, that's where our story finally begins...
The RCA Championships. The road to the US Open. A tennis tournament held in the state of Indiana that attracts the pros... Andy Roddick.. Andre Agassi.. Taylor Dent. All big names in tennis. We decided to go watch the semifinal matches as a family, and I was excited. This would be my first trip to RCA in three years.
well, I learned disturbing news before i got there. Big shot, Andy Roddick had lost the previous day, so I wouldn't be able to see him there. instead, there were some other lesser known guys playing, but i was excited. The matches were to be broadcast on national TV and everything. It's really neat.
We got to the Indianapolis Tennis Center just before the matches were to start. They are located on the IUPUI campus, so it's a pretty nice place. (total sidestory... If anyone has read or seen the Indy news, you may know of a certain sculpture on the IUPUI campus that has caused some controversy. It's the one of the two deer.. um.. in a rather.. um.. 'position'.. ya.. that one.. Anyway, that was the first thing that greeted us on our walk to the stadium.. how lovely...)
Moving on... We got there, and, of course, as soon as we get there, it starts to rain, so we were on rain delay for a while. Couldn't do much but walk around. The first match was really long and hot, but i'll skip to more interesting stuff.
if you guys ever have seen tennis on TV, well this is what we got to see live. And me, being the tennis fanatic that I am, loved every minute of it. Line judges, ball boys, the crowd, and the points were just all part of the great atmosphere.
Anyway, Taylor Dent, number 4 seed and ranked #22 in the world, was on the center court. He once held the record for the world's fastest serve, but Andy Roddick broke it. Wanna know how fast a serve he can serve?
We saw one go by at 144 mph, but i didn't get a picture of it in time. Well, anyway, you could care less about how the match went, so I won't go into detail, but Taylor won, and we were all excited. The best thing about the tournament is getting autographs and pictures. That's right, I have Taylor's autograph and, well, here's his picture.
Now, if only Andy Roddick was still there.. oh well. Overall it was a long, hot day, but, boy, it was a great time. I can't wait to go back until next year. And that, boys and girls, isn't a lie.
Tracie--> I'm such a faithful commentor. You like go up to his shoulders. How cute?!
kyle--> hey, man. That sounds like a lot of fun! I bet you really loved it!!! What is that all about the sculpture, though? They're deer in a bad position? Strange... I haven't heard about any of this...
