ESL Composition Course Syllabi

ENGL 62100, WRITTEN COMMUNICATION FOR INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE STUDENTS
an academic writing course for international graduate students. The course goals are to help graduate students:
     -to become more comfortable with and proficient in writing in English for academic purposes
     -to practice in and develop familiarity with several academic genres
     -to better understand the conventions and expectations of writing in your own area of research.

ENGL 106i, ESL FIRST-YEAR COMPOSITION
an academic writing course for ESL undergraduate students. The course goal is to help students to become more comfortable with and proficient in writing in English and develop initial familiarity with the expectations and conventions of the U.S. academic discourse through the Sequenced Writing Project.

ENGL 10600, FIRST-YEAR COMPOSITION
a genre-based mainstream writing course contextualized in the Purdue University community. The course combines the elements of academic writing, advocacy, visual rhetoric, and ethnography. This syllabus may be used for teaching 1.5 or advanced international ESL students. Individual projects may be used in an ESL-track course.
