What Students Say

For Introduction to Professional Writing:

“Mr. P is a great teacher. He is very knowledgeable about PW and his professional experience shows through his examples. His technology focus is good for students since technology is important to know about in order to succeed in this business. He was very accessible and wanted us to understand the concepts and do well. I appreciated him taking time to help me when I was confused.”

“I really appreciated the various mediums we learned from which is unlike many classes that stick exclusively to the book. The lessons were intelligent and creative, and I think that including things like the Google Book talks really engaged the class and made us think about the concepts we learned from the book in a different way, and see professional writing in a new light.

“Mr. P is a great teacher! I like that he breaks assignments up into steps so we are not doing everything all at once. I also like that we have a class website/class wiki where everything is organized. Although an intro class, Mr. P doesn’t make it uninteresting or dry. I enjoy the discussions, student presentations and lectures (good mix). I think this is a great class and Mr. P has helped me immensely with my writing as well as setting up a basis for my professional writing major.”

For Technical Writing:

The instructor is great, I don’t believe I would enjoy the course this much had I taken it with a different professor. He enjoys teaching and learning from

students and he is very enthusiastic.

The instructor did a great job of having a interactive classroom environment. He was also great at answering questions and helping students with specific concerns. Also, great in-class examples for projects.”

For Business Writing:

“He was a great teacher. Someone I felt was very professional and took his job seriously. Also, I felt comfortable in his classroom and he was open to questions and interjections. He was one of my best teachers at Purdue!”

“Before going into this course, I heard that the quality of material was directly related to which instructor you have. I’m very grateful to have had Mr. Pflugfelder as an instructor. He provided great feedback to each individual on almost every assignment. He was very enthusiastic and seemed to be very invested in this course.”

For Business Writing for Entrepreneurs:

“I really enjoyed your class last semester when we worked on the Kayak whiteboard video. It was a great class for me to take the chance to push my knowledge and try something new! My first project idea [for my new employer] was to create a whiteboard video to showcase one of our products to Banks and Credit Unions. The video is a huge success and will be posted on the main page of our website and featured at tradeshows all over the nation. Thank you so much for pushing me last year and if there is anything I could do to help your class or current projects feel free to hit me up.

“I loved how the projects were very creative and that Mr. P would give hard feedback to our projects; I think overall it was a good class and I learned a lot about marketing documents.”

“Continue to be as chilled out as you are. It makes your class fun and the whole environment is better because everyone is happy. I liked that the peer reviewing we do in class gave me lots of good comments and things to change on my papers.”

For Business Writing – Distance Education:

“The class videos for each week were fantastic and gave a better understanding for the week’s assignments. Your grading also was great because it came with feedback. Much better than receiving a grade and having to ask why that grade was assigned.”

“Mr. P provides a lot of detail in his assignment descriptions and sources to help us with our assignments.

For Introduction to Rhetoric and Composition:

“Mr. Pflugfelder is an excellent teacher. He has a very good way of telling his students what needs to be done to make the best out of the papers they have written. He is very clear in explaining his thoughts and advice, and is always very helpful in a positive and entertaining fashion.”

“Knows about writing techniques for the internet and is passionate about informing people of how to use the web to its fullest.”

“Uses real life examples (i.e. advertisements, websites, message boards) to further explain the topics for the course. Also, writing was a lot more free and had less restrictions than most other English classes I have had.”

“I loved the way the course requirements/objectives were translated for our class. Instead of just writing papers on literature, we learned some pretty valuable ways to interpret conversation/arguments, and better ways to argue ourselves. We also learned how to interpret everyday communication as arguments, with proposals. That was really helpful, and very useful.”
