We need to help everyone in the Philippines!!!

My phone number is 765-543-4079. You can call or text me for information. I have talked to some people in Lafayette and they are also pooling resources to send boxes of relief goods. My apartment will be the drop off location (222 West Wood St. Apt. 7). We are going to try to have this done before Oct 3 and Oct 10 to coincide with the collection of Gawad Kalinga in Illinois.  We have some concerns which your group may be able to address:

1. We need transportation to send the boxes to Chicago. If there are volunteers, that would be great. For now we are trying to call people from Chicago if they can pick up from here, but still no response.

2. We need to disseminate information. Right now, I have mobilized the Lafayette Filipino community, but if you have other people, not necessarily Filipino, who are willing to help. Maybe your group can help with fliers, or if you have other ideas that would be great.

3. Priority of donations. Preferably, we send in cash because it gets to the Philippines faster. I know of filipino students in Australia who are making 5-dollar pledges each. But for goods: we need clothes, blankets, medicine.

4. If there are people in your group who have affiliations with any kind of Church, we can ask a second donation for typhoon Ondoy victims. If you can have people go to St. Tom’s, St. Lawrence, St. Mary, University Church, Baptist church to solicit help, that’ll be great.

In closing, please remember that we need to act fast because help is urgently needed. There will be another typhoon coming, and our help may be too later.
