Tom and Lil Do the U.S. Grand Prix Track at Indianapolis!
These pictures were taken on 9/13/03 as my wife and I participated
in an Indy British Motor Days rally. The highlight of the event consisted
of taking a lap around the Formula One track at the Indianapolis Motor
Speedway. Be sure to scroll down - there are a bunch of pictures. Tom Fisher

This is a layout of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The black rectangular
oval is the Indy 500 track. The black "snaky" line is the Grand Prix circuit.
As can be readily seen, the Grand Prix track utilizes part of the Indy 500 track.
F1 cars go clockwise around their circuit. Indy 500 cars go counter clockwise.
We enter the F1 course on its backstretch at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
We continue on down the Formula One backstretch.
We have turned left off the backstretch and are entering an S curve.
Coming out of the S curve. (Guess who forgot to don his driving gloves?!)
We near the completion of the infield portion of the F1 track.
We go past the VIP suite on turn #2 of the Indy 500 track.
The F1 track merges with the Indy 500 track in turn #2. Ahead is short chute to turn #1.
Middle of turn #1. F1 traffic goes in the opposite direction to the flow of Indy 500 traffic.
Still coming through turn #1. Great view of stands, track and pit area.
Entering the home stretch. Scoring pylon ahead and master control tower on right.
Clear shot of entire main straightaway. F1 cars approaching 200 mph at this point!
Close up view of scoring pylon.
The famous "yard of bricks." This is the start/finish line for both Indy 500 & F1.
We get lost in turn #4! The guy ahead failed to turn into the F1 track's interior portion.
Error corrected! We now head back to where we should have turned.
Now we're back where we belong on the snaky part of the course off the straightaway.
Still coming through the tight turns. Notice the huge sand trap on the left.
Coming out of the turns and heading for the backstretch where we started.
The rest are various shots taken during the rally.
Most of them were taken as we got in line at the north end of the
speedway prior to starting the F1 track tour.
