BE_TWEEN is an exhibition of senior and graduate student artworks developed in the course Envision Art 01: the responsive screen. Envision Art 01 is the first course in a series of interdisciplinary Electronic and Time-Based Art classes offered through VPA's Division of Art and Design combining resources and technologies in the Envision Center with contemporary artistic research and practice.

BE_TWEEN features works by Hai Ri Han, Jack Moreland, Michael Muehlhausen, Candice Reed, Yvette Shen and Carlene Takaki, which playfully investigate the complex relationship between computer-generated images and the physical environment around them. In their projects, the students explore many new and often surprising answers to the question: how can physical objects interact with digital images? Each work is an invitation to the visitor to discover and participate, emphasizing process and immediate experience rather than contemplation of a finished product.

BE_TWEEN was organized by Fabian Winkler, Assistant Professor of Visual and Performing Arts in collaboration with Laura Arns, Associate Director, Envision Center for Data Perceptualization. The realization of student works for this exhibition was greatly supported by custom software interfaces developed for Envision Art 01 by David Braun, ITaP research programmer.
