The Purdue Graduate Student Fees Petition Drive Has Officially Begun Online!

Posted Mar. 3, 2009 10:57 EDT by Eric Scovel

GEO has started its sole campaign for this Spring semester, a petition drive aimed at sending a message to the Purdue President and Board of Trustees concerning the ludicrously high fees graduate students must pay out of their meager wages (as TAs and RAs) or out of the loans we usually have to take out to get by on.

The petition is online at iPetition. Please, if you are a graduate student, undergraduate, faculty or staff member, or anyone else at the University concerned with the plight of impoverished graduate students at Purdue, go sign the petition.

Spring 2009 General Body Meetings and Events

Posted Feb. 2, 2009 2:15 EDT by Eric Scovel

GEO is back in gear for the Spring Semester, and we need as many people to participate as we can get. General body meetings will be held every 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month at 7:00 PM in Beering Hall (BRNG) room 1254. See the Calendar for all of the meeting dates.

Our next meeting is Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 7:00 PM in BRNG 1254. We will be planning for the petition drive for the Fee Transparency Campaign, putting pressure on the administration to do something about these mysteriously high fees.

If you are concerned about this major drain each semester on your wages, come to meetings and do something to help yourself and the Graduate Employee community by participating in this campaign. If you have questions about us or the campaign, feel free to e-mail us, too. (See the Contact Us page to the left.)

News Story (Aug. 2008): "Purdue wants to attract more graduate students"

Posted Feb. 2, 2009 2:06 EDT by Eric Scovel

This story appeared from the AP wire service showed up just before this academic year began on August 19, 2008. It seems the University is aware that it is losing prospective graduate students because of the low wage/high fees situation that has gotten out of hand in recent years. This is just more reason to put pressure on them to do something about it by lowering fees and/or raising wages to reasonable levels, especially now that we are entering harder times economically. Let's make sure they know how much we are unhappy with the fees which cause us so much stress each semester.

Campaign for Fee Transparency Meeting on Nov. 12th

Posted Nov. 3, 2008 12:57 EDT by Eric Scovel

At our last meeting, GEO official began its Campaign for Fee Transparency and laid out the steps it will take for the rest of the Fall semester. We are starting, politely enough, by asking the administration directly to give us a breakdown of what the fees are being allocated towards. After that, if we receive no encouraging signs from them, the petitions begin to circulate and things will proceed from there.

If you would like to help GEO and yourselves by participating in this campaign, please come to our next general meeting on Wednesday Nov. 12th. If you have questions about us or the campaign, feel free to e-mail us, too. (See the Contact Us page to the left.)

Graduate Employee Survey Results Are In

Posted July 30, 2008 9:43 EST by Eric Scovel

We are proud to announce that GEO's first survey has been a success and is helping us tremendously in determining which issues are most urgently felt by graduate employees across the university. Your written comments were especially important to us. Many of them are featured on The Issues page, so please have a look at what their impact has been on forming GEO's agenda.

To view all of the statistics from the survey, go the the Survey Results 2008 page. Thank you all again for participating, and we hope to hear from many of you at our meetings and events this Fall.
