10th C.W. Lovell Distinguished Lecture

The 10th C.W. Lovell Distinguished Lecture will be held on October 20th, and will feature Prof. Heinz Brandl from Vienna University of Technology in Austria with his lecture titled, "Theory and Practice of Near-Surface Geothermal Geotechnics (Energy Foundations and Other Thermo-Active Ground-Source Systems)."

 

 

       

 

 

 

William F. Brumund: Georisks in the business environment

Sochan Jung ready for graduation

     

Congratulations to Dr. Sochan Jung for his Ph.D. defense with Prof. Drnevich.
His dissertation focuses on "New Methodology for Soil Characterization using Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR)".

 

 

 

 

 

Prof. Prezzi awarded Telford Prize

       

 

 

 

Congratulations to Prof. Prezzi for being awarded the Telford Prize of the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) for her paper with students P. Basu and D. Basu entitled "Analysis of PVD-Enhanced Consolidation with Soil Disturbance."  She will receive the award in London in October.

 

 

Prof. Bobet wins Ralph Peck Award

Congratulations to Prof. Antonio Bobet for being selected by the ASCE GeoInstitute Board of Governors to receive the 2011 Ralph Peck Award. He received the award for his outstanding contributions to the geotechnical engineering profession; particularly, his case study on the earthquake-induced failure of the Daikai Station (Kobe) and, based thereupon, the develoment of analysis/design procedures for shallow underground structures subject to seismically-induced deformation.

Prof. Bobet will be presented with the Peck Medal at the GeoFrontiers 2011 Conference in March.
