Athletics
Peanut butter and jelly. Glenwood and athletics. Some things just go hand in hand. Intramural athletics is a Glenwood tradition rooted not only in competition and winning, but in camaraderie and sisterhood.
Each girl is required to participate in a minimum of two sports per semester. With a wide variety of options, it's easy for even the "athletically challenged" to find the right fit. Intramural sports range from sand volleyball and flag football to bowling and table tennis. Those aren't your sports? Don't worry! There are many more from which to choose.
Wanna build friendships, have fun, and blow off steam all at the same time? GW athletics is where it's at! In addition, we really enjoy the bragging rights that come with athletics. Did we mention we were All-Cooperative soccer champions last year or that we got to play on the Mackey Arena hardwood in the basketball finals? You might have heard about our winning tradition in flag football as well. Good news travels fast. (But not as fast as our cross-country runners!)
Really though, when it's all said and done, athletics are about having fun and building friendships. Listen to what G-dubbers have to say:
"There's nothing like a crisp fall night with girls running around on the football field. Some know what they're doing, some don't. Other girls just come to cheer on the team. There are usually a couple cute guys who help coach us. For a couple hours you forget that you have assignments and studying waiting at home and you enjoy life! Nothing compares to the smiles and laughter. Even if we lose it's fine because we have fun!"
"Memories, man. Memories. That stuff is the bread of life!"
"Sometimes it's hard to get enough players together on certain nights to make a full team, but people always pull through and the break from studying can be just what we need. And afterwards we're all like, 'Why were we so hesitant to go?'"
Living in a cooperative house is all about teamwork. Maybe that's why Glenwood does so well on the field! No matter the score at the end of the game, Glenwood athletics is always a winner!
