"We get letters from alumni, like women who lived here in the 1950's, and it is so cool to hear about Purdue in a different age. Our house has played a big part in women's lives for decades. That's cool."

History

The Cooperative System is a rich tradition at Purdue dating back to the 1930's. The houses still operate on the same principles as they did over 70 years ago! Cooperative housing has a strong sense of community while offering the most affordable housing option at Purdue. Members are in charge of decision making and participating in daily operations, including cooking, routine cleaning and maintenance.

Glenwood was founded in 1939 by Glenora McFadden. The house was originally located where the Grant Street parking garage currently stands. It was relocated to 421 University St. until 1969 when Glenwood moved to its current location at 503 University Street.

Glenwood's House colors are Violet and White. These represent the Magnolia tree that is found blooming in spring in front of Glenwood. In the spring you can see the old magnolia tree in bloom where Glenwood stood at 421 University!

Our crest has two evergreen trees and a large G in the center. The G stands for Glenwood and the two trees represent sisterhood and cooperation.

The start of every school year is bittersweet. While old friends have graduate on to new thing, there are fresh and excited faces eager to be part of the tradition. One thing never changes. The history and stories are always passed along!
