"Sometimes I get jealous of the pledges because pledgeship semester is so fun and all the activities are centered around the new girls. I miss being the center of attention!"

Pledgeship
Pledgeship begins in the fall semester when new girls move into the house. After going through Rush, being chosen to live in a house, and accepting that offer in February, the probationary member (a.k.a. - pledge) is not actively involved in the house. There are two main reasons for the timing.
- High schools seniors rush and are not on campus to be involved in the house events after they have accepted bids.
- Cooperative living is about "living together" and "cooperating" so it's essential to live in the same house. We don't have room for anybody in February and we don't know of any campus leases ending in February!
Come August, get ready for the ride of your life! Pledgeship is an awesome time filled with fun and friendship, laughter and tears, and studying and making memories that will last a lifetime! It is a time for the new pledge class to bond with their sisters, learn about Purdue and Glenwood history, as well as individual growth. Glenwood pledgeship strengthens character and teaches cooperation that will translate far beyond time spent at 503 University.
As much as we could sugar coat pledgeship with our saccharine memories, it's no cake walk. We don't want to scare anyone, but we want our pledges to be prepared when they move into the house.
During pledgeship, pledges have mandatory study tables in the evenings to ensure students have plenty of time to study. Pledges also must make time to attend meetings and learn information about their sisters, the house, and Purdue. But we know how to have a good time, too!
All of that is balanced with social functions, hanging out and having a good time. During pledgeship, you'll learn how to juggle classes, athletics, and other campus activities.
And if you're worried about hazing, we take Purdue's no hazing policy very serious.
It's a lot when it's all thrown at you, but it's so worth it. There is no other semester like it. You'll laugh! You'll cry! You'll never have another semester as memorable!
