New Business:
GradSEA Elections will take place from 12:00noon Monday 14 April 2003 to 12:00noon Monday 21 April 2003. Nominations are completed; ballots are being copied and will be distributed on the morning of Monday 14 April 2003.

GradSEA end of the semester party will take place Tuesday 06 May 2003 (Tuesday of finals week) from 10:00am to 2:00pm. All are invited. Officers and Committee Reps (2002-2003 and 2003-2004) can expect to be contacted about providing snacking foods and games/fun activities.

Committee Reports:
Academic Computing (J. Romberger, by proxy). Nothing to report.

English Language and Linguistics (G. Taylor, by proxy). Nothing to report.

Introductory Writing (T. Graban, with contributions from J. M. Kapper). The most recent meeting included examining drafts of revisions to the IWP Student Guide and the IWP TA Handbook. Also discussed was the format of the meetings on 13 and 14 May 2003. On 13 May, those teaching 106R through the Lilly Retention Initiatives Learning Communities will be excused from part of the the IWP meeting to attend the Learning Community meeting. The 13 & 14 May 2003 IWP meetings will include time to work on syllabus development in conjunction with those who have developed sample syllabi. These meetings will also include workshops (topics: using technology to teach, using CORE, conferencing, research, responding to and evaluating student writing, and others TBA); the session on conferencing will be required of all participants. Those not teaching in Learning Communities will select three other sessions to attend. Those teaching in Learning Communities will select one other session (because two of the time slots for these sessions are concurrent with the Learning Communities meeting on 13 May).
Furthermore, two IWP brownbags on conferencing and tutoring have been scheduled. Also a new syllabus approach has been proposed and will be taken up at the next committee meeting.

Job Placement (M. Kapper). There will be an organizational meeting for those seeking jobs in the 2003-2004 academic year before the end of the semester. It seems likely to take place the week of 21 April 2003.

Excellence in Teaching (T. Graban). The committee has not met since January.

The meeting adjourned at 1:52pm.

Respectfully submitted,
Michael C. Kapper
GradSEA Vice-President
