Knob Creek Trip Signups
Saturday, March 31, 2007, 06:29 PM - Other Events
We\'ve got the final plans together for our trip to Knob Creek, as originally proposed in February. See http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~gunclub/foru ... c.php?t=10 for more information about the Knob Creek Shoot.

If you\'d like to sign up, please reply ASAP (before Monday) with your name, email address, and cell phone number. Even if you replied when we proposed the trip in February, we still need you to confirm and provide the other info above. Since we\'re planning our travel arrangements based on how many people sign up, sign-ups are binding and you will be charged whether or not you go.

We\'re planning to leave at 7:00 am sharp on Sat 14 April, so anyone who\'s going will need to show up at the Armory around 6:30 am. We\'re traveling in university vans, and the trip should take somewhere around 3 1/2 hours. We\'ll leave after the end of the second night shoot (10:00 pm), and we should be back in West Lafayette no later than 3:00 am on Sunday - more likely sooner.

All told, the whole day will probably cost $35-40. The club will be collecting $15 to cover traveling expenses from everyone who goes - this is about half of the traveling expense, and the club is subsidizing the other half. Admission to the shoot is $10 (pay when you get there), and you\'ll also want money for food. We\'ll be eating at least 2, possibly 3, meals while we\'re gone - lunch, dinner, and if we stop on the way home. There is a food line at the range, but we\'ll drive into town with anyone who wants outside food for lunch and dinner.

The other possible cost is if you plan on buying anything at the show, or renting a machine gun/flamethrower/etc. Talk to any of our members who have been there to get an idea of what\'s there and how much it costs.

One other detail is that we\'re driving the vans ourselves. We have 3 drivers already, but we need 2 per vehicle. Depending on how many vans we take, we\'ll probably need 1 or 3 more. If you consider yourself a safe, responsible driver and are willing to drive a large passenger van during the trip (and do some paperwork), please also indicate that in your reply.

Phew...sorry that ran on so long. We look forward to a lot of people going, and it should be a good time. Thanks in advance for your prompt replies.

New Policy
Tuesday, March 20, 2007, 01:53 PM - Practice
Starting tomorrow, Wed March 21:

If you shoot at practice, you must help clean up brass before you leave. If you have to leave before practice is over, plan enough time before you leave that you can walk behind the firing line and safely pick up brass that has ejected behind it.

Of late, too few people have been cleaning up brass, to the point that advisors and people who didn't shoot at all have had to clean it up; this is both poor sportsmanship and rude to fellow shooters. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this new policy.

Knob Creek Trip?
Tuesday, February 27, 2007, 01:05 AM - Other Events
Ok, folks.

We're trying to gauge interest in a club-sponsored trip to the Knob Creek machine gun shoot this spring in Westpoint, KY. Knob Creek is a huge biannual event with one of the nation's largest outdoor militaria/gun shows, machine gun/assorted Class III rentals, submachine gun matches, and a night shoot with tracers and reactive targets. It's always a fun trip, and this year we're considering turning it into a club-sponsored event. The shoot is scheduled for April 13-15.

We haven't nailed down any details yet, but we're looking at using university vans to travel in; leaving early Saturday morning, April 14th; staying late for the night shoot; spending the night in a hotel somewhere; and coming home the next Sunday. Cost hasn't been decided yet, but would be minimal.

Knob Creek's website is http://machinegunshoot.com/.

Teaser photos and video are available at http://www.knobcreekshoot.com/.

You can discuss this idea on the club forums here. This thread is in the public area of the forums, so you can post anonymously without registering, if you want.

If you're interested, please respond in the forums or contact Jon. We need to get a rough idea going on this soon if we're going to make this work.

Thanks.

New Gunclub Message Board
Friday, February 16, 2007, 11:40 PM - Tech Support
We've launched a new message board for the club so that members (and nonmembers too) can interact and discuss stuff online. It's been in the navigation menu for about a week now, but I haven't announced it because we were still setting it up.

It's not perfect yet, so even though it's stable, we're still adding things and tweaking. Therefore, it's officially in beta, but definitely feel free to register and post any questions, comments, thoughts, or photos you might have. (You'll have to host the photos yourself. Your Purdue career account would be great for that, as well as the usual photobucket type sites.) We'll see you there.

PS - Also added a page for fun downloads.

Wednesday Practice 2/14
Tuesday, February 13, 2007, 11:34 AM - Practice
Due to the obvious weather conditions, I won't be opening up the range for practice tomorrow morning, Wednesday 2/14. Hope everyone enjoys the time off and stays safe and warm.
