2009 Cover Indiana
Bicycle Tour

Join us for a great ride through Indiana and
support affordable home ownership!

7-Day Tour May 11—May 17
3-Day Tour May 15—May 17

The excitement is building! This May, 125 bicycle riders will participate in the 6th Annual Cover Indiana Bicycle Tour. They will see the backroad beauty of spring's first flowers, the majesty of the Wabash River, and the pride of our Hoosier communities. They will enjoy a route planned by one of Indiana's foremost cycling authorities and experience a unique level of fellowship.

Cover Indiana bicycle riders won't just be taking in natural beauty and native hospitality, they will also be leaving something behind. Simply by riding through our Indiana cities and towns, the riders will spread awareness of the mission of Habitat for Humanity, and of the progress Purdue Habitat and the other affiliates in the state are making towards ending poverty housing.

We invite you to join us in a ride that will not just lift your spirits, but will help Habitat for Humanity raise many walls. You can literally help us in our mission to ensure that every man, woman, and child has a decent place to sleep at night!

Is there a better way to spend a spring week? I don't think so. I hope you can join us!

Fee Information: As Purdue University students you will not be required to pay the $250 registration fee as listed in the Cover Indiana brochure. We do however ask that each rider raise $350 in donations. We provide adequate assistance in raising these funds. The $350 in donations may seem like a huge number however each year riders average $1000.

Routes: We will ride on lightly traveled and paved Hoosier backroads. Starting right here in Lafayette, IN and ending in downtown Indianapolis. Each day we will cover approximately 50-60 miles, with the first and last days being somewhat shorter rides. Each day's route will be clearly marked and supported so that you can ride at your own pace.

Overnight Locations: Crawfordville, Terre Haute, Linton, Bedford, Bloomington and Plainfield.

Food & Accommodations: Each night indoor sleeping bag space will be available. Breakfast and dinner will be provided for each rider courtesy of the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate.

Riding Jersey: If you register by March 1st for the 7 day tour you will receive a cycling jersey created especially for this event. If you register after March 1st you may still get a jersey however it will not be 100% guaranteed.

Equipment: You will need a multi-speed bike in good working condition, a helmet, clothing for riding (rain or shine), a sleeping bag, and appropriate luggage.

  • If you don't have a road bike we may be able to provide you with one so long as you contact us ASAP.
  • We will be organizing training rides after spring break. You must be registered in order to receive information about the training rides.
  • A helmet is required for all of the training rides and for the Cover Indiana ride.

Transportation: Transportation back to the start location will also be available for only $35. More information will be provided as the event approaches.

Other Options: Optional Day Riders, if you would like to participate in the 2009 Cover Indiana Bike Tour but cannot commit to the full week you are still welcome to join us. You can choose to join the tour for just a day, two days, or even tree days. The registration cost is $50 per day. If you ride only a day, no minimum fundraising is required. You will need to organize you own transportation to your start and end locations.

If you are a Purdue University Student your registration fee is waved.

How is this possible? Donations and volunteers! Even the ride organizers are volunteers, participating in the ride or working as ride support. Your registration fee covers most of the ride costs.
