Hammering with Hope
Purdue Habitat for Humanity and Lafayette Habitat for Humanity have partnered with the Purdue football team to help out the Lafayette community. We will be building a home for a family in Lafayette. The build is called Hammering with Hope to honor the new football coach this season, Coach Danny Hope, and also to commemorate Coach Joe Tiller's long career.
We believe that every person deserves decent, affordable housing. Especially in these hard economic times, it is becoming hard for families to keep their homes or purchase one. The Department of Housing and Urban Development considers housing to be affordable to a low-income family as long as the cost of housing does not exceed 30% of their income. In 1997, 3 million low to moderate-income families spent half of their income on housing. In 2001, this number jumped to 4.8 million. The affordable housing issue in America is not getting better which is why organizations like Habitat for Humanity are working hard to put more families into more homes.
Purdue Habitat is working with other student organizations across campus to provide the neccessary funding and volunteers to complete this project. We would like to take this moment to thank the Purdue student organization who are partnering with us to bring this wonderful opportunity to the Purdue Community.
