Writing
for Change: Undergraduate Student Work in Research and Writing for Civic
Engagement
This area contains
student work composed through exploratory and empirical research that
is focused on bringing about positive change at Purdue and in the greater
Lafayette area. These student projects represent in-depth exploratory
research into current issues that affect our community. After completing
inquiry research, students compose an exploratory essay that serves as
a springboard into empirical research and problem-solution report writing
as the capstone assignment of English 106 and English 420/1.
I believe this work allows students to see how writing can help the planning
and problem solving they will need to succeed in college, in the workplace,
and in their civic lives. Students are encouraged to explore topics that
interest them and then participate in civic engagement to conduct primary
and secondary research in order to build solid arguments to support their
findings and recommendations.
Thank you for taking the time to visit this area and read these documents.
These students put a lot of time and effort into their projects, and I
think it shows.
If you are a student of mine and would like to submit your exploratory
work and your problem-solution work to this page, please download the
permission form, fill it out (group work requires all team members' permission),
and email me the form along with your projects. Thank you. Student
