I was discussing the 2006 Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in New York with
Edward Mak, Deputy Director of Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York.
He told me they have reached out to get more Hong Kong students and friends of
Hong Kong to involve in this great Hong Kong event. Last year we have 117
team, over 1,500 athletes and 50,000+ spectators attended our multicultural
festival. It was a cultural celebration and a sporting event.
There are many ways to experience our festival,
1. If you are athletic and enjoy water sport, you can put together a team or
join one of the Hong Kong teams. Please contact HKETO Edward Mak's office for
more info. It will be fun and it is a good networking opportunity, on top of
that last year we offered $60,000 in cash and prizes.
2. If you will be in New York for the summer, the festival have part time and
volunteer positions available. You can gain experience in PR, marketing,
planning, organizing, programing and management skills from a major summer
festival in New York. If you are interested in helping us, please send your resume to
the email address below.
3. Attend our festival on Aug. 12 and 13, and visit the HKETO booth, their
souvenirs are highly collectable. Other corporate booths from HSBC, Verizon,
Citibank and etc. are always very popular. On stage, besides the infamous Shaolin
temple martial artists, the performances are multicultural and interesting.
Also do not miss the dumpling eating contest, a new attraction started last
year was an instant hit. You do need to train a bit to swallow down 30+ dumplings
in a minute to have a winning chance. Check out our website for more info.
