Tyler Johnson is a third-year doctoral student in the Department of History. His general field is U.S. History, more specifically the Antebellum Era (approximately 1820-1860). His research focuses on volunteers in the U.S. Army during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848), and he will be starting work on a project looking at Catholic volunteers.
Tyler is married to the lovely and gracious Karen, who works in the School of Aeronautics and Astronautics as a secretary. Both count Oregon as their home. Karen is a native of Eastern Oregon, near the Idaho border, while Tyler's parents live near Portland, Oregon in the western part of the state. Tyler grew up as a military brat, living in several different states and one foreign country, but Oregon is the place he lived the longest (and the place he and Karen would love for him to find work in).
He has had a relationship with Jesus Christ since early childhood (due to parental influence), and thanks the Lord for having astounding patience with his laziness and pride. He hopes to use his discipline as a means for witnessing, reaching historians with the love of Christ.
Tyler attends Kossuth Street Baptist Church in Lafayette.
