Curriculum Vitae

I am interested in behavioral ecology and evolution, especially social and cooperative behaviors and recently behavioral syndromes. I am also interested in the application of animal behavior to conservation. My PhD dissertation project is focused on the study of group formation in vertebrates, using obligate army-ant-following birds as study system. My current study species is the ocellated antbird (Phaenostictus mcleannani: Thamnophilidae).

The field component of this project is conducted at La Selva Biological Station, Costa Rica. Genetic analyses are conducted in the genetics lab of Dr. J. Andrew DeWoody at Purdue University. As part of the genetic component of my dissertation I have isolated and characterized 15 novel polymorphic microsatellite markers for the ocellated antbird.
