The Poster Reception will occur on Friday Oct 8th from 5:00 – 7:30 pm on the 30th floor of the conference hotel, the Marriott Union Square.  This poster reception will be attended by all conference registrants and is intended to give students an opportunity to showcase their PEER or NEES research projects.

The deadline for applying to present a student research poster has passed. No more poster applications will be accepted. However, you may still register to attend Quake Summit 2010.

Due to the large number of applicants to present posters at Quake Summit 2010, accepted posters will now be announced by Wed. August 18, 2010. Accepted poster presenters will be informed if PEER will pay for their hotel room during Quake Summit 2010. Students are responsible for all other travel costs; PEER will not pay any student travel reimbursements..

Make sure to use the newest versions of the PEER, NEES and Quake Summit 2010 logos in your powerpoint and poster!

Accommodation charges (room and taxes only) for student poster presenters will be paid by PEER for the nights of Thursday October 7, Friday October 8 and Saturday October 9, if funding is available. As is customary from previous PEER Annual Meetings, students will be required to share room. All students are responsible for their own incidental room charges such as telephone, room service, movies or other miscellaneous items. Upon check-in, you will be asked to provide a credit card to cover these incidental expenses. Do NOT make a separate hotel reservation until you hear if you were accepted as a poster presenter on August 13th.  If you are accepted and funding is available, PEER will make a hotel room reservation on your behalf. If you are not accepted or if funding is not available, you will be able to make a hotel room reservation by the September 1st hotel reservation deadline.

On Friday October 8th, poster set-up will begin at 4:00 pm. All poster presenters are asked to arrive promptly.  The conference administrative staff will be available to assist all poster presenters with easels, push pins, etc.  All poster presenters will need to take their posters down at 7:30pm, and are requested to assist the conference staff by taking their poster easel to the staff office, the City Suite Room, on the mezzanine level.

Poster Preparation Instructions
Poster presenters should bring their own pre-printed poster to the meeting. The posters will be displayed on tri-pods with foam-core boards upon which presenters can paste or pin their posters. Pushpins, tape and glue sticks will be available at the meeting. The foam core board backing will be 30" wide X 40" tall (75 cm X 100 cm) so posters should not exceed these dimensions. Using those dimensions as a guideline, posters should be organized as follows:

  • – Include all of the following information on the poster header:
    • – Project Title
    • – PEER program or NEES Project for which research was completed.
    • – Names and affiliations of all project principal investigators
    • – Names and affiliation of all student investigators
    • – Names of additional funding agencies as appropriate
    • – Laboratory name and university where the research was conducted
  • – Footer:
  • – Posters can be printed in color, but it is not required. However, all posters must be two-dimensional, with no "pop-outs", three-dimensional elements, or electronic construction.
  • – Use only one side of the poster and do not extend any portion of the design or display beyond the 30" x 40" board.
  • – Please do not frame or set in glass or plastic.
  • – The main body of the poster should include at least an Introduction and Conclusions. Possible sections between the Introduction and Conclusions include Background, Methods, Results, etc.
  • – Graphics are always preferred to lengthy text. On the other hand, some brief text, readable from a distance, can be useful to describe the graphics.
