ECONOMICS 671

Welcome to Economics 671. This course is designed to expose the student to the matrix algebra treatment of the linear regression model. We begin by discussing estimation, prediction, inference and testing within the context of the linear regression model under ideal conditions. We then consider generalizations of those conditions, leading to a discussion of heteroscedasticity, GLS / FGLS and finally, mean-independence violations.

The course concludes with a discussion of instrumental variables estimation and a review of IV examples in the literature. Students are expected to perform some MATLAB-based programming throughout the course.
