This website is completely free. Absolutely no registration, subscription, or any other fees are required for use.

Who created the Purdue Hay Locator? Why?

The Purdue Hay Locator is a nonprofit website that will aid in finding or selling hay, straw, and other forage. It was designed by a group of students from Purdue University to update an earlier version of the Hay Locator network.

How do I create an account?

On the upper left-hand corner of the front page, click on New User. This will lead you to a form asking for a username, password, contact information, and mailing address. Your contact information and mailing address will not be visible to people that are not logged in.

How do I post a listing?

After creating an account and logging in, you are able to post listings on the Purdue Hay Locator. In the menu on the left-hand side you will find “New Listing” within the My Account link.

What if I have multiple kinds of hay to sell?

We ask that you list each lot of hay separately. This will make searching by the type of hay, price, and weight much easier for prospective buyers. There is no limit to the number of listings you may make.

How do I edit a listing?

Within My Account there is a link for “My Listings.” If you have listing(s), they will be shown to you with three options in the far right column. Click on the middle option to edit that listing.

How do I delete a listing?

Within My Account there is a link for “My Listings.” If you have listing(s), they will be shown to you with three options in the far right column. Click on the third option to delete that listing.

Nothing appears when I search, is something wrong?

If you have typed in keywords, make sure that they are spelled correctly. If you still do not see any results while searching, try broadening your search criteria by using fewer keywords. However, if there is an error message while searching, please contact the Webmaster.

How do I change the Forage Tip of the Week?

This feature is available for administrator use only.

How long will my listing remain active?

The maximum time limit for a listing is 30 days. If your hay does not sell within this time and you wish to keep it active in this network, you may renew the limit. Do this in the My Listings page. Once there, click the number of days in the Expires column to reset the days remaining to 30.
