CLCS 336: The Ancient World Onscreen

This course explores the representatioon of the ancient Greeks and Romans in both modern films and television. Why are they figured as they are? What happens to the books they wrote when these are translated into a different medium? What aspects of ourselves do we see (or prefer not to see) in the people of ancient times? Class meetings will consist of lectures and of film and TV screenings.
