CONSTITUTION of the Lafayette Student Advisory Council to the College of Technology Article 1 – Name The name of this student organization shall be Lafayette Student Advisory Council to the College of Technology. Article 2 – Objectives The primary purpose of this organization is to serve as a liaison on behalf of the non-traditional students pursuing degrees through the College of Technology, Lafayette site, to the administrators of Purdue University. The general nature of the business to be transacted and the objects on purposes for which the organization is formed shall be as follows: To promote and foster unity among non-traditional students at the Lafayette Statewide Technology location; To promote the professional and educational advancement of Organizational Leadership and Supervision and Industrial Technology students; To serve as a voice of the non-traditional students emphasizing the balance of work, family and the need for a strong educational experience; To disseminate information on all subjects of interest to the non-traditional students; To maintain relationships with other professional organizations; and serving as ambassadors in recruitment of potential non-traditional students. Article 3 – Membership All enrolled students in the College of Technology, Lafayette site may become members of this organization. Membership and participation are free from discrimination based on race, religion, color, sex, age, national origin or ancestry, marital status, parental status, sexual orientation, disability or status as a disabled or a Vietnam-era Veteran. The advisor will be a non-student member of the organization, with all rights and privileges therein, except for the right to vote or hold office. Full membership is limited to students enrolled in the College of Technology, Lafayette site, however Purdue University staff and faculty are eligible for adjunct membership, which means they may not vote or hold office. Article 4 – Officers/Election Process There will be two official offices to be held by organization members, President, and Treasurer. President: The President’s responsibilities include delegating responsibilities to group members to complete tasks, attending or arranging meetings with outside organizations, upholding a strong moral example for the group, and overseeing organizational meetings. Treasurer: The treasurer keeps accounts, deposits, the organization’s funds, and makes expenditures in a manner approved by the Business Office for Student Organizations. Nomination/Election Process: Elections shall be held be held annually during the fall semester, and no later than September 30th. Qualifications for running for office is limited to enrolled students in the College of Technology, Lafayette site, who are a nominated by a group member in said proceedings. Nominations for election candidates must be submitted in writing to the organization’s advisor within fourteen days prior to election and ending seven days prior to election date. If members are unable to attend elections they may cast their vote, via email, for nominated candidates up to one hour prior to elections on election night. Offices will be elected by a silent ballot majority vote. Ballots will be counted by no less than 3 individuals and overseen by no less than 2 individuals. The individuals that count the ballots and oversee the counting may not be members that are running for current office. Should president or treasurer graduate prior to the end of the academic year a special electronic election will be held to fill the position which has/will be vacated. An officer may be removed from office if said individual does not conform to the rules and regulations of the organization, is deemed unfit to continue office duties, or fails to meet requirements according to university regulations. Members will be notified by e-mail of potential removal of officer due to circumstances as stated above. Following the email notification, said officer may be removed upon majority electronic vote by eligible members. Expulsion of an officer member may be done by holding a formal inquiry, which will be overseen by the remaining office members without the presence of the officer in question. At the end of the closed organizational discussion of group members the defending officer may enter and respond to said accusations and give a closing argument. After the closing arguments have been conducted the defending officer must then leave again while organization members cast a silent majority vote. Under no circumstances is any member allowed to speak of discussions conducted in closed session or reveal any information thereof upon grounds of immediate expulsion from the organization. Article 5 – Amendments Amendments to this constitution may be conducted if deemed necessary by any eligible member enrolled in the College of Technology, Lafayette site and agreed upon by majority electronic vote of organization members. All amendments to the constitution and bylaws are subject to the approval of the Office of the Dean of Students. Amendments MAY NOT take effect until they have been approved by all parties. All procedures business shall follow Robert’s Rules of Order/parliamentary procedure.
