(Communion: 2nd, 4th, 5th Sundays of the month)
Pentecost Season: We have looked at the life and work of our Savior, Jesus, in the first half of the Church Year, from December to May. Now we are in the Pentecost season. We think of how our Triune God is at work in our lives, as Christian people, and what He would like to do, in and through us, for our benefit and for the sake of the people He has placed around us. May this be a time of spiritual growth for us all.
Helping This Summer
- As usual, we will have fewer "church mice" around for parts of the summer. If you would be willing to help with cleaning, mowing grass, and other projects around the church, see Dan Lehmann.
- If you would be wiling to be a Lay Reader or an Usher for worship this summer, see Raymond Gee or Pastor Barton.
Summer Bible Study Options: Let Pastor Barton know, if you are interested in having any of the following Bible study opportunities offered this summer.
- An evening Bible study, probably on Mondays or Thursdays
- A Christian Basics class, covering essentials of the faith
- A wrap-up of the Lord Have Mercy book study
- A new book study or another Bible study

Rides to Church: Our church van will not run its regular route again until Sunday, August 16. If you need a ride any time this summer, though, just call or e-mail the church and we will arrange a ride for you.
Helping Refugees in Sri Lanka: Several people have donated already to help refugees in camps in Sri Lanka. Very basic help is being given: food, water, mosquito nets, health kits, etc. Schools are also being set up, because many children have been separated from their parents and need safety and support and something to do. You may give help, too, by writing a check to Lutheran World Relief – Sri Lanka Emergency, or by placing a gift earmarked for this project in the offering plate.
Thrivent members may have a portion of their gifts matched. Be sure to fill out a Giving Plus form. (Remember that in a given year’s time, you can only apply for matching funds for two organizations, and the limit is $600 per organization per year.) See Pastor if you have questions about any of this.
Lutheran Hour Broadcast: The Lutheran Hour can be heard at the following times and stations:
- Sunday 7am – WGN - 720 AM
- Sunday 8am – WWCC - 97.3 FM
- Sunday 9:04am – WMRS - 107.7 FM
Woman to Woman Broadcast: They say that beauty is only skin deep, but we all have inner beauty, too! Discover how to project that inner beauty outward and obtain that outward beauty for less as you glean beauty tips using natural and household ingredients. Just tune in to the Woman to Woman broadcast on Monday, in the Lafayette area, on 97.3 FM at 9am.
The Men's Network: The Men’s Network is an Internet ministry-building resource from The Lutheran Hour. It is one of those rare Web sites where men can learn about creation, start a fantasy football league, or plan a Summer mission vacation, all on the same site. From The Baloney Shop to Bible studies, there is a wide variety of subjects for Christian men. Check it out at www.lhmmen.com.
Habitat House: We still need more volunteers to work on building another Lutheran-sponsored Habitat house, funded largely by Thrivent. Our church is responsible for providing helpers on July 11 and 28. You do not need special skills – just a willingness to come and help. Sign up on the hall bulletin board. |
