| Toby Schmidt Toby Schmidt is our Campus Missionary to Chinese-speaking people, working out of our church and sponsored by our Indiana District, LC-MS, and Midwest Chinese Ministries. His office is on the upper floor of the church. Toby has been here since August and was officially “commissioned” for his work on October13, 2002. His email address is fishn4jc@insightbb.com. Toby is now leading our weekly Chinese Bible study, using Mandarin and English; has already expanded our offerings of conversation groups and conversation partners and opportunities for internationals to improve their English; and is planning more activities. |

| Toby is a graduate of Concordia University, St. Paul, MN, and from 1998 until earlier this year was a "Volunteer Youth Ministry" Missionary for LC-MS World Mission in Taiwan. He speaks Mandarin and worked with schools and churches in Taiwan, teaching English, developing curriculum, and leading small group Bible studies in Mandarin. He has teaching certificates in elementary education and English as a Second Language, and also had the opportunity, while a student, to teach for a few months at a school in Cochin, India. Toby is also an Eagle Scout, with considerable experience working at outdoor camps, was captain of his college men's soccer team, and was very involved with spiritual and mission activities at Concordia. He was married on August 10, 2002, in Chicago, to Rachel Schoenfuhs, who has also been a Volunteer Missionary for Synod in Taiwan. The Schmidts live in West Lafayette, and Rachel is a teacher’s aide at a local Montessori school. (Toby and Rachel are pictured here, from when they were in Taiwan.) | |
