Small Assignment 3
Due Monday of Week 11
Small assignment 3 is deceptively simple - which means that you must pay special attention to execution! In a 2-3 page essay, you must do the following two things:
1) Pick a topic that would be appropriate for a final essay in this course, and suggest a specific kind of writing assignment to explore that topic. The topic here is of vastly less importance than the analysis and thought that goes into the design of the assignment, and the explanation for how and why your assignment is appropriate for the topic you have chosen. In designing your assignment, keep in mind the rhetorical strategies and concepts learned thus far in class. I strongly suggest making use of one or more of them (the lines of power, defamiliarization, the structure of argument, etc...) in order to make the analysis of your written assignment clearly organized. If you have other rhetorical structures you would like to address, that's fine, but I'd clear it with me first to make sure you're on the right track.
2) Suggest a multi-media project that would further compliment your writing assignment in exploring your topic. Again, what is critical here is not so much the topic, but how you explain, analyze, defend, and design the multi-media project that could explore it. Again, make reference to specific rhetorical concepts that apply.
In both cases, keep in mind that this is an ACTUAL SUGGESTION that may be used later in this course. That is part of this assignmen't design parameters. Therefore, while suggesting a fully operational website, with streaming video, blog posting, wiki content, etc., may be interesting, it is not FEASIBLE, and therefore, would not receive a good grade within the scope of this assignment. A simple front page might be feasible, but your task would be to explain why it would be appropriate...
