Thursday	Collection of Project1; lecture on the history of universities; open discussions on the purpose of education in America.	Read Whitehead (PDF w/password) for Monday's class. Focus your attention on his second and thrid sections. Remember to post your blog. Focus in on the following questions when reading Whitehead (any of these would make good blog fodder): What does he consider the purpose of universities? How does he describe the professor/student relationship? What does he see as a major strength or weakness of university education? Finally, develop an understanding of what Whitehead means by "imagination" and how it fits into this theory.

What is the connection between Whitehead's conception of the imagination and Florida's treatment of creativity? Can you see any differences? How would Florida evaluate your program in terms of preparing you for citizenship in the 21st century?

Monday	No Class	Asimov's short story "Profession" for Monday. Stop pretending to draft the paper and really start drafting the paper.
Wednesday	More on sources--transitions and citations.	Write one paragraph abstract/proposal on your paper.
Thursday	We will share people's research questions in class.	Annotated Bibliography due Monday; rough draft due Wednesday.
