The Mecca Shiva Dance Troupe represents Mirage Bellydancers in different dance shows, cultural events, haflas, and residence hall performances in and around Purdue. It consists of intermediate and advanced members of Mirage Bellydancers who have been in the club for at least two semesters. Members who have been in the club for one semester can also join the troupe as alternates.

Levels

If you want to join the troupe, you can attend the official tryouts at the beginning of each fall and spring semester. You can try for three different levels:

Level 1 is for those dancers who are either new with previous dance experience(1 semester/1 dance requirement) or still fine tuning their choreography, technique, and stage presence. They will still be required to come to all the rehearsals and classes, but they will also get to learn all the choreography and thus grow as dancers. As alternates, Level 1 dancers will fill in for level 2 members when Level 2 dancers can’t make it to a performance. Level 1 dancers will most likely get to perform at least a few times a semester.

Level 2 is for the dancers who are in intermediate 1 and have a couple of dances under their belts. They should be able to perform the two choreographies accurately. They should also have some awareness of their stage presence and position on stage within formation.

Level 3 is for dancers who are in intermediate 2/advanced and have more difficult dances under their belts. They are confident and accurate with their choreography and technique, have good stage presence, and are fully aware of their position on stage.
