Horizons Scholarship Reception

Horizons Scholarship Reception

The 9th Annual Horizons Dessert Reception was held on October 5th at the Hillenbrand Atrium and celebrated the academic achievements of outstanding sophomores in the Horizons Program. The Horizons Program encourages low-income, disabled, or first generation college students towards academic excellence and the reception honored the students who earned at least a 3.0 GPA during their freshman year at Purdue. The Barbara Cook Chapter of Mortar Board prides itself in promoting one of its core values of scholarship through this program. The chapter challenges these students to continue to strive not only for academic excellence, but to also strive for the learning and growth possibilities present in leadership and service. This yearŐs reception featured a special keynote speaker, Jerome Smith, who is a successful student of the Horizons Program. Jerome shared his experience as a Horizons student and how it impacted his success as a student of Purdue University. Jerome served as a positive role model for the Horizons students and motivated them to continue to "strive for academic excellence."
