| The goal of the Motorcycle Safety at Purdue campaign (MS@P) is to make the road safer for everyone.
The campaign aims to accomplish this in three ways:
1. Encourage motorcycle riders to engage in safety practices such as wearing proper safety gear, becoming properly licensed, and obeying traffic laws.
2. Encourage drivers of other vehicles to be aware of motorcycles and to avoid aggressive driving.
3. Encourage friends and family of motorcycle riders to talk about motorcycle safety.
Funding from the Motorcycle Safety Foundation has allowed us to accomplish the following activities to date.
During the Spring and Summer of 2006 we conducted focus groups with each target audience (i.e., motorcycle riders, drivers of other vehicles, friends and family of riders) to pre-test campaign messages. Responses and suggestions gleaned from these sessions were used to revise and finalize our logo, website, and other campaign messages. After gaining approval from the University to use our messages, promotional materials were ordered.
Our promotional materials include:
T-shirts with MS@P campaign logo and caution sign
- Key chains with logo and caution sign
- Pens with logo
- Puzzle booklets with popular puzzles with embedded motorcycle safety messages
- Conversation Starters featuring statistics and ideas for how to start a conversation about motorcycle safety with a friend or family member who rides
- Bumper stickers with logo
- Magnets with logo
- Statistics and What You Can Do Cards for distribution at Purdue Parking Office
- Bookmarks with Statistics and What You Can Do for distribution at Purdue Libraries
