How to Become a Partner or Sponsor for the Motorcycle Safety at Purdue Campaign

Who Are We?

Motorcycle Safety at Purdue (MS@P) is a communication campaign designed and implemented by a faculty member, who was severely injured in a motorcycle accident, and a team of graduate and undergraduate students at Purdue University. Directed by Professor Marifran Mattson, PhD, the goal of the campaign is to improve motorcycle safety on the Purdue campus and beyond. Nationally, the number of motorcycle crashes has been on the rise and each year more than 3, 500 people are killed and over 80,000 are injured in motorcycle crashes. The campaign aims to increase safety and reduce injuries and deaths by encouraging safer riding practices among motorcycle riders, greater awareness of motorcycles by drivers of other vehicles on the road, and strategies for discussing motorcycle safety among friends and family of motorcycle riders. With the slogan “It Involves You!” we believe that motorcycle safety is something that everyone in the community is a part of and should be concerned about. Some of the components of the campaign include bus signs, posters, public service announcements, a website (www.ItInvolvesYou.com), and distribution of promotional materials (t-shirts, key chains, pens, puzzle books, balloons) at community events. In addition, the campaign has already partnered with organizations in other states including Nebraska and Kansas which have adapted our campaign messages and promotional materials to their motorcycle safety efforts. In other words, we are creating a recognizable brand for motorcycle safety!

What is the Difference Between a Partner and a Sponsor?

A partner is an individual or organization that has developed a common interest with the campaign and is willing to contribute time and/or resources in an effort to progress and sustain the campaign over a long-standing period. A sponsor is an individual or organization that will provide assistance in the form of money and/or merchandise, in return for advertising opportunities with the campaign. This may or may no be a long-standing relationship.
