In November 2003, on Wisconsin Public Radio's program "To the Best of Our Knowledge," Alexie participated in a discussion of democracy with several other contemporary writers, including Alice Walker , Margaret Atwood, and Isabel Allende. In July 1998, Alexie participated in a roundtable called "A Dialogue on Race with President Clinton" (available as a written transcript and as an audio file on the NPR website).The Connection--"One Good Man" and "Soon to be a National Geographic Special" Salon.com--"Dear John Wayne," a short story from Alexie's collection The Toughest Indian in the World National Public Radio--in August 2003, Alexie talked about Ten Little Indians Matt Dellinger's interview with Alexie for the online New Yorker, published the same week the New Yorker ran Alexie's story "What You Pawn I Will Redeem" Alexie was in rare form during his appearance on Stephen Colbert's show recently. Because of the devastations of Jackson's Removal policy, some American Indians have argued that he should not be honored by appearing on US currency. The central character of Alexie's story "What You Pawn I Will Redeem" is tellingly named "Jackson Jackson."
