INTRODUCTION TO SEISMOLOGY

There will be a number of assignments due during the semester. There will be approximately 7 problem sets/labs, and 2 exams. The problem sets will, in addition to reviewing the lectures, include material on:

1) Interpretation of seismograms

2) Locating earthquakes

3) Computer ray tracing

4) Fault plane solutions

5) Dispersion

Finally, a short paper is required in which some aspect of the literature is reviewed, a computer program run, or an original problem formulated. These projects should be started early in the semester (no later than Oct. 15) with consultation from the instructor and TA.
