History
Thirty-some years ago, a group of students in the area found themselves cut off from the world of Orthodoxy and decided to petition various priests in the region to serve Divine Liturgy on a semi-regular basis. Their plea was answered, but was inconvenient for many reasons- the priests lived rather far away, there was no place of their own to worship, and schedule was sporadic. Eventually this led to the establishment of a mission parish in Lafayatte, with a permanent priest. However, since the parish was located so far away from the average student's range of mobility, many newer students were ignorant of the great progress that had taken place. A foothold on campus for students was reestablished, when the priest decided to rent a room from the Baptist Student Foundation for liturgical use. After many years of use they rented an entire house, which is the OCF House you see today.
Mission
They (those almost omnipotent people that tend to talk a lot) say that a student's college years are the most trying for church participation because of a new and rather relaxed environment. Our goal is simply to provide access to the church during this strenuous time. Willing students have a chance, not only to be part of an Orthodox community on campus, but to participate in a variety of fun activities throughout the year. Come and see us sometime.
