OM Team Wins Hard Charger Award at Baer Field with Strong Come From Behind Run
The premiere season for the Opportunity Motorsports/Circle Bound Racing partnership continued its successful run at the Baer Field Speedway in Fort Wayne, IN on Sunday. Carrying sponsorship from the Purdue University College of Engineering, the number 14 ARC Racing Engines/ARP Bodies machine fought a tight handling condition during the day’s early practice sessions. The race threatened to be an unsuccessful outing, as the team and driver Zach Taylor were almost one full second off the pace. Qualifying in eighteenth position of twenty seven teams did little to build optimism.
A series of post qualifying changes would leave the team hoping it had made the proper adjustments in time for the green flag. The answer: Yes, Taylor began working his way up from his starting position early, patiently and effectively passing cars throughout the race. By the halfway point of the race, the number 14 car had entered the top 10, and would be sitting in the sixth position at the fall of the checkered flag. The entire OM/CBR team was excited to have made something from seemingly nothing, and winning the Hard Charger award for the race despite having a brake problem surface early in the event.
On the other side of the track, Opportunity Motorsports and the College of Engineering held a display to provide information on the programs, and a pit-stop competition open to race fans. The display was hugely successful, and will be returning at the upcoming CRA/USAR event at the Indianapolis Raceway Park on June 17th.
