The first semester is finally over but it’s time for a 3 day training camp! Oh how I wish it was a baseball training camp then this would at least be interesting. During the day they set up camp and at night they discover how good a cook Rin is. Rin takes a minute to notice that since he wasn’t in school he never took part in activities like camping with friends. Now that it’s night it’s time for the training. They have to bring a lantern that is hidden in the forest back to the camp. Only catch is that there are only 3. They are given a survival pack. I want to say right now, that Boobs Sensei offers very little to the plot and I don’t think highly of her, so if I leave her out, you now know. I say this because she tells Rin not to use his flames. Right at the start everyone is assaulted by bugs and Shiemi, the second most character to offer much to the plot gets attacked by a giant moth. Rin saves her by using his flames and Bon see’s them, kinda. So it turns out that everyone decided to not help everyone, they are all going to help each other. We cut to Amaimon and Mephisto talking about attacking Rin. So they find the lantern, its huge, they work together to transport it. However things go awry when they go to cross a river of bugs and Rin gets caught by the giant moth. Also let me say, the ending theme “Wired” is extremely odd. Next episode Rin vs Giant Moth!
Episode 15

The first 3 minutes of this episode are a recap of last episode and once we catch up to the plot Rin tries to get everyone away so he can use his flames but Bon, like the badass he is, takes on the moth with Shimas’ staff before they all run away. Bon yells at Rin that he shouldn’t keep trying to do everything alone, but to work together with everyone else but he wonders what would happen if everyone knew he was the son of satan. They get back to camp to notice that bunny puppet guy and Kamiki both made it back on their own with a lantern. Just then The Earth King Amaimon drops in but in a surprise twist Boobs Sensei is ready for him. She has prepared a barrier and soaks everyone but Rin in holy water. She then gives Rin back the demon slaying blade while being a complete waste oh and Shiemi has been mind controlled by a parasite implanted by the giant moth. Amaimon takes her and Rin runs after him into the forest. Bon, channeling Date Masamune, goes into the forest to help Rin out, they show up and shoot anti demon fireworks at The Earth King and one hits his hair turning it into broccoli. Apparently this pisses off Amaimon and he wipes the floor with the trio. Rin finally decides to draw his sword, showing everyone his blue flames and tail. Bon recognizes the sword and Rin losses himself to his anger and demonic power and starts to overwhelm Amaimon. Mephisto pulls Amaimon out of the fight but Rin destroys the container holding him. Oh and the demon slaying blade has a crack in it, it gets a few seconds of air time so you know it’s important. Next week, demonic Rin fallout.

Ah, 30 second recap then back to the action. Rin is practically a feral demon at this point but that doesn’t stop Shiemi. She runs up and gives him a hug and stops him! The power of friendship everyone! Now enters the most flamboyant character of the series, Arthur Auguste Angel, or Triple A, who is always called by his full name and is the current Paladin is here to kill Rin with the girly sword Caliburn. Instead he collects Rin and takes him and Mephisto to court and the Grigori, the high body of the Exorcist Order. Yukio tells everyone about Rin’s true identity and how he is a normal human. Also here, Bon tells Yukio that he knows of the demon slaying blade and possibly a way to fix it when Konekomaru, sadly the voice of reason here, asks why help out the Son of Satan? Back at the court, Mephisto unveils his plan to turn Rin into a Weapon against Satan. Yukio and his students head off to Kyoto to meet up with an oddly cute swordsmith. I do have to say, her accent gets some getting used to here. She knows of a way to fix the blade but she needs either the jewel steel so they go get a giant nail that survived the Blue Night. When they get the temple they find that everyone is unconscious and they are attacked by Mara, demons that attack the weaknesses in people’s hearts. Back in the court, Amaimon attacks the court and Mephisto makes a bet with the Grigori to see what Rin becomes. Also they fix the demon blade with the nail. Next episode their decision!
Episode 17

As the demon slaying sword is fixed Rin begins to move in his crystal prison that he was placed in upon capture. Amaimon is somewhat feral and is quite focused on Rin. Triple A and Boobs Sensei are no match for him. Mephisto is quite the puppet master here, getting everything going almost according to his KeiKaku, which means plan. Bon shows up with the kurikara which apparently has Rin’s heartbeat. Rin gets his sword back and makes quick work of Amaimon, killing him in a single strike. The Grigori allow Rin to live and we get our opening! Apparently Rin won’t be killed as long as he doesn’t go berserk and passes the exorcist exam. Rin meets up with everyone and everyone has an awkward time with Rin you know, being the Son of Satan. Rin acts out in anger, punches a wall, and coal tar falls and Rin burns them up, but not Shiemi. Boobs Sensei shows up with candles to teach Rin to control his flames while she and Yukio have a small contest and talk back story and about people watching over the brothers satan. While this is happening Konekomaru is possessed by some random demon who starts attacking Rin. Next episode, more stuff happens!
Episode 18

So about that demon attacking Rin, apparently it hates satan, but Yukio comes in at the last minute to save Rin. In other news, the demon that attacked Rin turns out to be pretty strong and Mephisto wants everyone checking the barriers around town to see how it got in. Bon and Shima worry about Konekomaru and speaking of him, he has a chat with the demon as he tells him to allow him to be fully possessed by the demon to kill Rin. Yukio feels random pains, Rin keeps on training, and Rin notices the demon around Konekomaru and draws his sword, causing problems for everyone almost killing Bon and Konekomaru. Boobs Sensei finds a portal in a car to a burnt out Laboratory. Konekomaru wakes up, becomes fully possessed by the demon but Rin bears his heart to him and together they defeat the demon. Boobs Sensei lets Mephisto know about the portal and we see an Earth King looking hamster on a running wheel. Back at the school Konekomaru goes to leave school for good when Rin uses the power of friendship to convince him to stay and once again everyone is back being friends with Rin, accepting him as the son of satan. Rather fast wasn’t it? Next episode, nothing happens!

As our episode opens we see Yukio doing his own blood work when a strange reaction happens and the anime doesn’t go into it, thanks anime! In the classroom Shima does some fortunetelling in the most annoying way possible. And today’s episode is a birthday plan for Kamiki. Well if we are going to waste an episode, let’s go full out, right? Bon steps in as the party plan leader and divides up jobs. Shima gets the gift, Rin and Konekomaru get the cake, and Bon and Shiemi decorate the room. Kamiki notices Shima asking around for the gift, Rin getting the information about the cake, and Bon making decorations, sigh, can these people fail any harder? Kamiki goes to Magnaria (second best restaurant name) and questions her friend about what is going on. We also learn that Rins and Yukios birthdays are December 27th, kinda close to another important date. God this episode is only half over. So it turns out Rin makes a Christmas cake instead of a birthday cake because his birthday is so close to Christmas. Great joke! So the give the cake to Mephisto and its FANTASTIC. Shima and Paku go out to buy a gift for Kamiki and she mistakes it as a date and Shima, like the great guy he is, tells her the real plan. While nothing else is going on, what is with her eye brows? Oh well, she gets mad and wants a party for everyone, not just for her birthday and we get a music montage of birthday happiness! Thankfully Yukio brings the somber on when he talks about his mother and him and his brothers births. Yukio gets a phone call that seems really important and our episode ends!
Episode 20

This episode starts with Rin and Yukio going back to their church to find their friends covered in some kind of web-like material. Rin goes running off and is attacked by a person in a mask but runs away once Yukio and Boobs Sensei appear and give chase. Yukio runs into Neuhaus in the clock tower. He escapes into the sewers and they give chase. However a few of the teachers sent down there are attacked by the masked person and become cocooned. Boobs Sensei once again has Rin on flame control, giving a small speech about the people he cares about, those closest to him. At this point the masked man attacks the boys dorm, and Bon, Shima, and Konekomaru are no use. Mephisto shows up to take out the building and Triple A shows up to stop Mephisto. So instead of all that Yukio sneaks in and overhears the masked person taunting Rin to show up. Yukio takes this time to attack but it does very little. Rin and boobs jump in and it turns out Rins flames can burn away the webbing. Rin burns away the webbing without hurting anyone gaining control of his flames. As it turns out it’s a woman behind that mask. Neuhaus is captured, and he tells them that the culprit is his wife! Rin frees his friends at the church and Yukio is approached by someone. That someone leads him to his…..grandfather! More next episode.

Our episode today starts out with our injured culprit ending up in Shiemi’s potion shop and Ni/her administering first aid but who cares about her, after the opening we get back to the good plot, Yukio and his grandfather. They talk about Yuri, who died during the Blue Night 15 years ago. He tells Yukio they burned her at the stake to restore power to the Order of the True Cross. At this point they enter the Dragoon Laboratory where Yukio’s grandfather asks him to join him to fight against demons. Now we turn to a captured Neuhaus being questioned. Its brought to light that Neuhaus was versed in bringing the dead back to life, but he did not do it, but says one day her body vanished from deep freeze and alive but possessed by a demon. The order got wind of this and captured Michelle, his wife, and burned down their lab, but they escaped. Rin hears all this and goes after her but before he goes looking, he gets a call from Shiemi wanting to talk. Our next scene has Michelle waking up with forest beings and Shiemi still treating her. Rin arrives and he see’s Boobs sensei’s familiar. Shiemi and Michelle talk in the secret garden while she looks a bit green, Rin appears and Michelle takes Shiemi hostage but Michelle passes out. Shiemi shows some back bone and stops Rin from slashing Michelle in half. He goes outside to make a call when Triple A shows up to kill Michelle. Neuhaus jumps in to try to help but Rin jumps in and fights Triple A himself. Michelle steps in to take a bullet for Rin and Neuhaus carries off his wife as the green Ni men protect them. Its actually a nice touching scene. As for now, the Vatican sounds an urgent summon. Why? Ernest Frederick Aegin aka Yukio’s grandfather has crowned himself Pope to start an all out attack on demons. Its time to hunt demons next episode.

Kuro wakes up Rin to let him know Yukio hasn’t come back yet and Rin is worried about his brother and it turns out school is closed today. Kamiki lets everyone know there is a new Pope and the Order has been reorganized the new head of the Japanese Branch? Why Yukio of course and holy shit, they made him Paladin! Rin talks with Yukio and you can feel Yukio has lost some of his humanity, that his smile is superficial. The time has begun to do Operations Jacobs Ladder! Just what is this plan? To use demon slaying weapons that suck in their power as they die. Bon notices an odd symbol on the gun. The exorcists start eliminating demons and their weapons start sucking in the power. While watching these scenes you get the feeling that this is wrong. In a flash back we see that Ernst might have a way to turn Rin human, which is why Yukio is doing all this without pause. We also see the main point of this plan, to open up the gate to Gehenna and drop the equivalent of an atomic bomb on it, to wipe out all demons. Back in the present we see that the killing is reaching a high point, and Yukio goes to even kill Kuro. He seems even less human now. Yukio slaps Rin unconscious and they take him to Vatican HQ. Boobs sensei shows us that Yukio’s arm is becoming demonic or something to that affect. Our cute Kyoto swordsmith talks with Bon and tells him the weapons suck the demons blood and stores it. Rin wakes up in a jail cell opposite Mephisto. Rin recaps the situation and Mephisto tells his story as Johann Faust in crappy picture cards that would make Rukia from Bleach amazed. He then turns into a dog and escapes leaving Rin to rot. Since Rin is one of satans children like Mephisto, shouldn’t he be able to do that as well? Ernst appears and we learn that Rin has been sentenced to death at the top of the True Cross Academy. The students head up there and are blocked by Triple A, Rin is tied at a post, and the ceremony begins. The blood sucker weapons release the demon blood and they use Rin’s sword to open the Gehenna gate. Boobs sensei stops Triple A from attacking the students and they fight, she says more bald jokes, I don’t get it, neither should you. Yukio appears and learns he was being used, the students to the top and we see Yukio covered in Satan’s Blue Flames just like Rin. Holy snap! Just what happened between those cuts? Find out next week!
Episode 23

Can you tell I enjoy these last 4 episodes? We flash back and learn the best place to open a Gehenna gate is atop the True Cross academy and you need Satan’s blood to open up the gate, which is why they are sacrificing Rin. Yukio goes to shoot his grandfather, but it’s too late, the atom bomb will soon hit the gate. Yukio steps to give blood and we see Mephisto and a hamster Amaimon are our witnesses/exposition for a while. Rin is let go and Yukio slices open his wrist and in doing so all shit goes up in Blue Flames. Time catches up and we see the Gehenna gate as it really is as the bomb is dropped into it. The bomb goes off as the Pope relishes in it as the gate explodes with coal tar, we see bunny puppet boy reciting a bible verse. Satan’s voice appears as Shiro’s voice, since he takes the voice of the last person he possessed. Satan/Shiro tells Yukio the truth about his mother’s death and we get a flash back to snowy mountains. We see Yuri living the mountains with demons getting along just fine with them. We cute to Yuri’s father being quite mad about his daughter being with demons so he sends Shiro out to kill all the demons. We see Yuri is possessed by Satan and not dying from the blue flames. We see a flashback again, of how Yuri became possessed by Satan one year ago. She allows satan to use her body to see what Assiah is like. She teaches satan about life and allows satan to impregnate her somehow so she has his children. Shiro is blamed for the pregnancy, thinking he slept with her, and her father has her burned at the stake as her punishment. This is what became as the Blue Night, satan possessing almost everyone to find a vessel to protect Yuri, he ends up being possessed himself and frees Yuri. Mephisto breaks Shiro out of prison and brings him up to speed. The injured Ernst sends Shiro to kill his daughter but Shiro decides to raise the children instead and Mephisto gambles again and they seal Rin’s demonic power inside the Kurikara and Yuri passes from this world. Back in real-time Yukio gets the truth from his grandfather Ernst, it was just as Satan said. Before Yukio can get revenge the Gehenna gate swallows Ernst, and Satan goes to fully possess Yukio as a vessel so he can walk freely in Assiah. Our episode ends with Satan/Yukio laughing crazily. Oh man, next episode it gets better!
Episode 24

Ladies and Gentlemen it is on. Satan has possessed Yukio and Rin wonders what is going on and Mephisto still just watches and laughs, I wonder who is the real bad guy here. Instead we get a flashback with Triple A and Ernst about the operation and he isn’t happy but bound by his duty as a knight. Satan tells Rin about the fact that they are vessels for him and his dream to unite the two worlds. Bon, being the badass he is, wants to duel Satan, but his attack does nothing, sadly because he isn’t a main character. Boobs sensei appears and breaks the action so everyone can escape. They regroup and take out the gate, and Rin thinks he can bring Yukio back from being possessed. They put the plan into action and Boobs sensei will distract Yukio while Rin destroys the Gehenna gate. We see all the other characters are rescuing people when they notice Shiemi isn’t there. Boobs sensei can hold her own against satan and it turns out her sword has some badass techniques but it isn’t enough and oh no; Shiemi appears to talk to Yukio. Rin appears to stop satan from killing Shiemi but won’t fight his brother. Rin calls out to Yukio and is getting quite beaten up in the process. Rin’s yelling finally wakes Yukio up but he is held back by his fears. Yukio calls out to his brother for help, they lock hands, and satan, still possessing Yukio partly, shoots Rin. Yukio comes back to his senses and puts the gun against his own head to take his own life, just like Shiro did, but Rin punches his right in the jaw stopping him. Rin talks some sense into him about taking his own life and he is freed of satans possession. Brotherly love ladies and gentlemen, it can fight back satan! Our episode ends with the Gehenna Gate reaching full power. Next episode is the last!

The episode now starts out with the story of Faust, with Mephisto giving someone eternal life however the moment that person wishes to die they do. Go read Faust, it’s a great read and unless I want this synopsis to be 3 pages long I cannot explain it here. There is a reason for this flashback, just wait. Back to the action! Ram Demon heads are coming out of the now floating Gehenna Gate that also shoots lasers and spreads is creep. Triple A appears to save Boobs sensei and Shiemi. He attacks with Rin but they are stopped about half way up. They time their attacks and Rin lands a solid flame hit against the gate but it does nothing. Back with our side heroes it seems the barrier to the safe area has been broken and Bon gives us the best line. “He is so stupid he would forget to die even if he was killed.” Back with our main brothers, we find the Gehenna gate is on the move lasering everything and Kuro comes back to help Rin and Yukio and now Yukio can hear Kuro’s voice. We see how the demon invasion is affecting everyone else. Our other hero’s come up with the plan to open the door to the Vatican and let light shine in because dawn will stop the demons. They plan to reflect the light with mirrors! The light pours out from the True Cross Academy and it gives Rin and Yukio the chance they need to attack the Gehenna Gate. They are attacked and Yukio draws the kurikara and together Rin and Yukio form some kind of flying bird of flame and attack the gate and destroy it saying that they are just protecting their friends and their world. In a small aside satan apologizes to Yuri but she said their dream may still come true. All of our heroes meet up and have a heartfelt reunion, even bunny puppet guy is there doing nothing. We see Mephisto as he reminisces about the flashback at the start of the show, and he understands how the man feels and we get our ending credits with 9 minutes left in the show. We pick up a month after the attack and school has returned to normal. Yukio and Rin visit a very snowy mountain as he explains about their mother. They run into some snowmen who take them to their mother’s grave and the cave in which they were born. Yukio asks Rin if it was right for them to be born into the world, and Rin replies of course! We cut to Boobs sensei, who I wonder why she can’t go away, when Rin and Kuro appear to help take down a speed demon, literally. Rin kills the demon but it possesses a Mac Truck. Rin tells Yukio that they should always get the demons side of the story before passing judgment. Our series ends with Rin charging the demon in kind of a crappy ending if I do say so myself.
