|
|
Okay, I flip-flop on this alot. There are times when I feel that nature is impersonal (e.g. feeling the force of a moving river, or the jarring lessons that gravity has often provided), but there are also the times when you just feel that the universe has got its eye on you.
Do other people experience this, and if so, is there a reconciliation for the two views? _________________ There are 10 types of people in the world:

Sometimes it does feel that the universe has it's..... eye(s)? .....on everything. I have read Phlsphy papers that suggest the universe itself is an observer in that "Shrodinger's Cat" kinda sense quantum physics is trying to explain now.
I personally experience a detachment or a strong sence of belonging w/the universe at different times. As well as kinship with natural phenoms.
I guess I flip on this a lot too. |

This is a hard one to explain, In my opinion the Divine is both personal and impersonal.
The ulitimate Divine is impersonal, but there are divisions within this Divine force that can act on quite the personal level |

That makes me think of Chaos Theory. Like the Hindus have some 33 million odd deities, which are very much the personal sort. At times,
these have all been coalesced into a single transcendent impersonal god.
So... maybe 33 million personalities when all mixed together are simply too chaotic to recognize as a personality.
Also, I was talking to a particle physicist once, who was describing how the
void of space was continually splitting into particles and antiparticles (the sum total of the universe being a random walk slightly favoring non-annhilation of these pairs).
It would be interesting if this were true of deities as well. For every deity, there is an intrinsicly opposite one... and the sum total of divinity in the universe was nil. That way one ends up with both personal and impersonal nature.
I'm done rambling now. _________________ There are 10 types of people in the world:

well, given that the universe runs on the principle of attraction/repulsion (eg: magnets w/specific poles), what you're saying, Orion, isn't all THAT far off....although some Dianics would disagree and say that this is all "dualistic thinking" and that we need to "break the current patriarchical paradigm" and start thinking in 3's and 5's instead of 2's....
I think the Universe/Big "G" God is a force, only it's SOOO huge that we literally can't comprehend it. So in order for us to be able to inteact with it and NOT scream our tiny little heads off, we (as humans) put a "face" on it--literally! But since everyone all over the world lives in different climates and with different experiences of the divine (eg: desert cultures vs. rainforest cultures), different aspects of "G"od get emphasized. And then past leaders (both real and legendary) end up getting "pasted" over the tops of the "g"ods, given them personalities and quirks, just like a real human. And because "G"od is neither vegetable, animal. or mineral, but *energy*, it responds to all the various prayers given by us to all it's myriad forms because our prayers are energy!
There--how's THAT? _________________ "I believe in everything, nothing is sacred. I believe in nothing, everything is sacred." --Tom Robbins, "Even Cowgirls Get the Blues" |

Hmm... come to think of it, I guess the split doesn't have to be into twos.
Like maybe Bast, Sekmet, and Anubis all appeared in one split generating
positive and negative female cat energy and neutral male dog energy -- and any three year old will tell you that the opposite of cat is dog, and the opposite of girl is boy
j/k, though nature does tend to express the positive/neutral/negative
scheme alot. _________________ There are 10 types of people in the world:

Ditto...I totally feel that there is something watching me or over me at some times, but very detached at others. However, if God is in all things I suppose both is possible. _________________ I close my eyes and know there's peace in a world so filled with hatred... |

in some fantasy novels, it is suggested that God is nothing but the energy in the universe that can be used for good or evil... and it continues on to suggest that by believing in different deities we actually create a such deities - ie the power of belief by the masses actually creates a sentient god that goes on to punish or bless as defined... i rather think that God is energy and that we humans tend to be the right and left arms of the gods we believe in - ie we tend to deal out the punishments and blessings through our societal behavior... did any of this make sense? btw - i just joined the site - hi everyone! which room is the next meeting taking place this coming sunday?
thanks... _________________ life's like fantasy - there's the good and the bad and the things that make us go ewww and laugh all the same... |
