  • The time has finally come for our first camping game of the season!!
Our #13 Purdue Boilermakers will be taking on the Spartans of Michigan State University, who are ranked #18 in the nation. Game time is 9:00 PM on Saturday and it will be shown on ESPN. Michigan State is coming into the game with a 12-6 record on the year and they are 4-2 in conference. They have been struggling as of late: They beat Northwestern by just 3 on the road, lost at Penn State by 4, followed that up with a couple overtime wins at home against Wisconsin and Northwestern, then lost by 9 at Illinois on Tuesday. Obviously this is a team that was among the favorites to win the Big Ten pre-season and they are still a team that will challenge for a title. This is our chance to kick them while they're down. Keep an eye out for a scouting report tomorrow!

You are responsible for reading everything in this post!!

We will be extremely strict with all of the rules we state in here. This is the biggest game of the year and we have to make sure everything runs smoothly. "I didn't read the e-mail" is not an excuse.

    IN THIS E-MAIL:
    • Full Timeline of Events including:
      • Lottery, IU Road Trip Signups
      • Famous People coming to Camping
      • Camping Rules, Gameday Procedures
      • Line Procedures
    • Special Rules for This Game
    • State Farm Sign Contest
    • Safety/General Advice
    • Miscellany

    FULL TIMELINE OF EVENTS
    • Noon Friday:

An officer will show up to begin signing people up for the lottery. The lottery will take place inside the room next to the former location of Local Mountain Coffee on the northeast corner of Ross-Ade Stadium. We are expecting a large crowd so try to be there by 12:45 at the absolute latest so we can get everybody signed up and the lottery started right on time.

    • 1:00 PM Friday:

We will hold the lottery just like we normally do. As the lottery progresses we will have people outside to show you where to set up your tent. There is no limit to tent size and you are allowed to share a tent with other groups if you wish. Prohibited items include grills, alcohol, open flames, external power sources (e.g., generators), and extension cords. If you are found with any of these your entire group will be immediately kicked out of line. Check out the attached document for full camping rules and procedures. If you need to use power sources for things such as homework, etc., there should be plug-ins inside that you are free to use!

    • 4:00 PM Friday:

We will be holding sign-ups for the IU road trip at the same place we held the lottery. This road trip will cost $35 including tickets and transportation. You MUST have $35 with you to sign up for this trip, and you may sign up one other person as long as you have money for them. If we have more people sign up then there are spots for the road trip, we will do a lottery to see who gets to go. Groups will be one or two people depending on if you are signing another person up as well as yourself.

    • Sometime Friday evening:

It is likely the ESPN Personalities (Digger, Bob Knight, Hubert Davis, etc.) will come visit us camping. If I remember correctly, they are doing a walk-through of their show Friday night and will come after that is done. I have no idea when this will be and we might not find out they're coming until 5-10 minutes before they show up, if we have any warning at all.

    • 6:30 AM Saturday Morning:

At this time we will do a line break. This means everybody can take a break and we will not do any roll calls until 7:15 AM. This will give everybody an opportunity to clean up their tents and other materials. You MUST have all of this cleared by the time we go into Mackey for Gameday. After 6:30 AM, we will NOT be allowing any more groups to sign up on the list until 1 PM.

    • 7:15 AM Saturday:

We will begin forming the line to get into Gameday. This is essentially a roll call so a group member MUST be present at this time or else you will be Mike Kleined. The front of the Gameday line will be formed in the reverse order of the lottery: The last group in the lottery will be the first group in the Gameday line, the second to last group in the lottery will be the second group in the Gameday line, etc. The first group that is drawn in the lottery will be the last group among all groups present for the lottery to enter for Gameday. After all groups that were present for the lottery are placed in line, we will put the groups that showed up after the lottery in the order that they show up at the end of the line. After all the groups that are on our list are in line, then all of the other Paint Crew members who are only showing up for Gameday can join.

EXAMPLE: Say Groups A, B, C, D, E are present for the lottery and drawn in that order (A first, B second, etc.). Then Groups F, G, H, I show up in that order throughout the night after the lottery takes place. The order of the Gameday line would be E, D, C, B, A, F, G, H, I.

This process will give groups that are drawn late in the lottery an incentive to stick around, as you will be among the first groups to enter Mackey Arena for Gameday. This way everybody will get a good seat for either Gameday or the game itself.

    • 7:45 AM Saturday:

Gates Open for Gameday! We will not be in control of this seating procedure at all as far as I know. We will be filling up Sections 9-13 first and then after that you can sit wherever you please. I think they will be pretty lenient with everything-if you have friends in reserved seating or friends that don't even have basketball tickets, you can save a couple seats for them by you as long as it's not an obscene amount of seats. The main point of Gameday is to have fun and that's done best if you're sitting by people you like! One strict rule is that you MUST WEAR BLACK in order to be allowed in the lower bowl. It can be a black jersey, Paint Crew Shirt, or a plain black shirt, as long as it is black.

    • 1:00 PM Saturday:

We will hold a roll call outside Mackey Gate B like usual to re-start the line. Gameday ends at noon so this gives you some time to grab a lunch quick if you need. For all of the groups that showed up after 6:30 AM, we will hold a lottery after this roll call to determine what order you are placed in on the BACK of the line that is already formed.

    • 7:00 PM Saturday:

We will start the process of forming the line to get into the game.

    • 7:45 PM Saturday:

Gates open to Mackey Arena! Make sure your entire group is present at this time. We will be doing wristbands just like we did against Penn State. We may also do a wristband check before the game, so don't try to slip your wristband off and give it to somebody else to sneak extras in. We're not stupid. IF YOU HAVE 10 PEOPLE IN YOUR GROUP, YOU CAN ONLY TAKE UP 10 SEATS!!!!!!! We have 1,779 tickets and 1,779 seats and every single seat needs to be filled with at least one person. We are college students: I shouldn't have to sit there and tell you exactly what seat to sit in but if we have one more game where people are not squeezing into their seats, I will happily do just that. When you enter the arena, you MUST go straight to your seat. No trips to the "bathroom" and no free passes if you "forget your ID at home." Once the entire lower bowl is 100% full you can do whatever you please. To sit in the lower bowl, you must be wearing your 2010-11 PAINT CREW SHIRT!!! No black jerseys, no 2009-10 shirts, ONLY THIS YEAR'S SHIRT!! If you don't have a 2010-11 Paint Crew shirt, you can buy one from us or the bookstores for $15.

    • 9:00 PM Saturday:

Game time. At this point you will be standing in our section with 1,778 of your closest friends in what is likely to be the best college basketball atmosphere you have ever experienced. Get excited.

    SPECIAL RULES FOR THIS GAME
    • You must wear black to be admitted into the lower bowl for Gameday!! If you have friends that are coming to join you for Gameday only, make sure they know this so they can enjoy it with you.
    • You must wear your 2010-11 Paint Crew shirt to be admitted into the lower bowl. No exceptions. You will need to show the usher three things to be let down: Wristband, Shirt, and Ticket.

    STATE FARM SIGN CONTEST

State Farm will be holding a sign/spirit contest during College Gameday! We aren't running it in any way so I'm not sure how it will go but I know all signs must be approved by Gameday staff to be let in. I believe the best five signs/most spirited people will win. Prizes may include cash, behind the scenes access, and other seriously legit prizes. Like I said though, we're not running it so don't quote me on that.

    SAFETY/GENERAL ADVICE
    • It goes without saying that our number one concern is the safety of our members. That being said, we will have a sizeable indoor area (warm) that you can use if you need to warm up or anything throughout the night. That being said, you will not be allowed to sit in there for too long and no sleeping will be allowed. There are also bathrooms for use in there if needed. Temperatures will be as low as about 11 degrees and we will not allow people to spend extended amounts of time outside unless you are in a tent! The wind chill could be below zero so a tent is vital to keep the wind out and stay warm. We have contingency plans in case it becomes unsafe so don't worry about safety issues. We will take care of everyone.
    • Don't use a big tent unless you have a lot of people-it's hard to warm it up with only one or two people. Those small tents get pretty warm quick so it won't be so bad inside them. Another good thing that helps is putting a lot of padding on the bottom of the tent to keep it off the cold concrete and keep it comfortable. If you are alone in your tent, don't be afraid to make friends and join up with somebody else. The more bodies in a tent, the warmer it will be. Since we will be setting up the tents on the sidewalk, you will not be able to stake them into the ground, so you should bring some heavy things (cinder blocks, bags of books, etc.) to help weigh down the corners of your tent so it doesn't fly away (this has happened before). This all probably seems obvious to most people but I know I didn't know how to properly camp before I came here!
    • Make sure you rotate people in and out throughout the night. A lot of times we see one person representing a group of 10 all night and it doesn't really make much sense. You can have everybody wait outside for one or two hours at a time so when you are not out there you are nice and warm and asleep in your own bed and you only have to spend at most two hours there overnight. If people are not willing to wait outside for your group, then don't wait for them.
    • Please be flexible! These two days are all about having fun and making memories and showing the nation that the Paint Crew and Purdue are the best in the nation, and we need everybody's cooperation to make that happen.
    • Try to get a lot of rest Friday night and Saturday afternoon! I know it's hard with camping but Saturday will be a long day and we want everybody energized for the most important thing, The Game! If you are camping Friday night I recommend taking a nice long nap Saturday afternoon to get some rest and get ready to be loud again at 9 PM.

As always, don't hesitate to ask if you have any questions/comments! This is going to be a fantastic couple of days with 1,778 of your closest friends!

  • Paint Crew,

By now everyone's heard the news about Robbie Hummel. I've seen a lot of negativity on Facebook, Twitter, etc - "Season=over" "My senior year and my Final Four hopes are ruined". I don't want to see or hear any more of this nonsense! The entire team has been putting in countless hours of work over the summer and you can be dang sure they're not going to roll over and give up on this season.

You're either 100% all in with us or you're out. This is the time when the team needs us most and we are gonna give them all we've got, the same way they're gonna give everything they've got to go out and make this the incredible season it will still be.

    Boiler Up!!!
