I know I got pretty antsy to race Saturday, but was let down when I couldn't... sooooooooo I think I'm going to go down to IRP on Tuesday for street legal night. It won't be as good as US 41 would have been, but it will do, and I don't have any finals on Tues either, so why not? Is anyone else interested in heading down there? It could be fun if a couple of us could drive down together and what have you. It's $15 now, but you can get a $5 coupon in the trader paper or wheels and deals. Just wondering if anyone else wants to join me.

4. Seat belts must be properly mounted.
5. All windows must be present and in good shape and rolled up fully when racing. (no cracks)
6. All automatic transmissions must have operational neutral safety switches.
7. Doors handles operational inside & out.

10. Radiator must have proper overflow catch tank.
11. Tires must be in good condition.

16. All vehicles must have at least one working taillight.

Uh... isn't that illegal to only have one working?

2. NO RACE CARS!!

Isn't a car you drive in a race a race car? so.. they're ALL race cars. Either that, or you can't have experience unless you head on up to 75th or the airport in chicago and race at nite.

7. Doors handles operational inside & out.

Sorry Ben.. you can't go. You don't even have outside door handles.

14. Rear seat must be installed or sheet metal covering or trunk bulkhead must be installed.

Uh.. you can't go either Pete. I don't have a rear seat :D

17. All hubcaps and trim rings must be removed.

Don't want any hubcaps beating you down the track... but I see their point.

What if you arn't manually shifting your autotrans. I just put it in gear and ago.

I don't have a helmit (not worth getting kicked out after one pass), plus I have finals so I can't go anyways, but I want to.

So basically, I cant go? :(

1. Bungee cord over the battery
2. 20 oz. Mello Yellow overflow
3. No DS loop
4. Passenger door handle broken
5. No helmet (I could muster a 13.98 possibly)

If ya'll are serious about this and the weather will clear up, Ill clean up this shit box and maybe get through tech. Is this like a T&T or what?

Anybody know what the exact criteria is for a DS Loop???

Several of those rules are gay.

Except the one about the shorts....because you know that 1mm of fabric will save your life in a wreck...

All they ever check is if you have a battery hold down and if you have a helmet. If you run faster then 11.99 repeatedly they will kick your for no cage. You also must wear pants other then that they don't give a shit.

Last time I raced at IRP...the guy directing people to the burnout box yanked open my door and saw that I was wearing shorts. He told me to either put on pants or get out of line. Lucky for me I had an extra pair of long pants to jump into.

Moral of story...don't try to pass stuff over on them because they do check...it's not US41.

And Neil...the long pants are more a protection from fire than a wreck. Although I would think in a fire, the fabric would melt onto your skin and cause you more harm than if you weren't wearing it at all???

when my friend was on fire the wool shirt and jeans didnt burn fast at all. he wasnt burned much at all. now if you were wearing polyester or some shit than i would think it would shrink wrap to your legs. bare skin is bad

Well, when I was on fire, the shit burned into my legs, forcing me to amputate them with a 7/16" wrench in the pits between rounds.

How much are helmets going for now? SNELL 90 or better that is. Is it kosher to buy them used, or is that a bad idea?

I got my Bell SR Pro helmet last summer for 250ish. Mine is full face, but open design with no visor. This protects your face from getting intimate with the steering wheel, but also gives you good visibility. Basically, it's cheap insurance. It's an area where I would not cut corners by buying a used helmet, you don't know what it's been through. If I bought another one, I would probably go with a visor so I could use it karting.

I got my Snell 2000 helmet last year for $125, full face with visor. Look around, should be able to find new ones fairly cheap. BTW, buy a closed face helmet, as NHRA will not allow open face any more.

Shane

Shane, I'm pretty sure your HJC will be fine. On the back of your head on the outside it'll prolly say "SA" or "2000" or something along those lines. I have an Ion bike helmet that i wear and is legal. There are 2 rating systems I've seen on bike helmets, but right now I can only think of the snell. I'd bet your HJC is snell 2000 aproved.

Helmet pricing varies hugely depending on when you buy and who you talk to. My Ion was listed at 249.99 plus an additional 29.99 for the reflective shield. I ended up only paying 179.99 for the helmet and shield because I was buddies with one of the regulars.

Things like vents, sheilds, decals, bags, ect, ect determine the price. I'd imagine you can get a plain jane helmet for under 100 bucks. But when your riding your matching R6 or F4i (like i hope to in the near future), you look a whole lot cooler. If you just want a helmet for the occasional drag strip or road course event, features and decals dont really matter.

It's either SA or MA if its snell tested (Unless its a horseback riding helmet). MA is motorcycle helmets tested by snell. SA are sports car helmets that add rollbar impact testing and fire proof materials inside. SA's are generally heavier and more expensive. 2000, or 00, is the latest date and usually the places let you run one or two before that, eg: SA95 or SA 90.

So if the rules just say "SNELL", I guess either MA or SA will work, although my trek bike helmet is also snell rated...

Rumor has it there's supposed to be a lot of out of staters coming to this upcoming one. St. Louis street racers are supposedly coming up with some pretty badass cars. And I also heard a rumor of a couple outlaw-esque vehicles MAYBE trying to make the trip. Regardless this should be a pretty bad ass event this time.
