I need to get my car up there, so just making a post to see if anyone wants to get together and head up for a night. I'm up for it in the near future.

Shane- I'll be up for it soon. I didn't get any runs in the other night. My egr block off plate blew off my header and ended my fun. One of Ben's friends is welding up the penny sized hole in my header Monday evening.
So let me know.. I'd love to play =P~

I would be interested in going, as long as I'm going with some people so I'm not all by my self somewhere. I'd also need to follow someone.

Doesn't sound like you get out much. :D

Its not that hard, you head north on 52 (which merges to 41) until your there and head south on 52 to get back.

What do you drive?

Usually if we get a group going we all meet at the Westside Walmart before heading out and drive up together, but like Clark said its just a straight shot North and South on the way back.

Clark I believe he has an '01 or '02 (can't remember) 6spd SS

Lets get a day. I wouldn't mind a small group. That way I can take my tires up there and leave them laying on the ground with less worry. Plus more people can see me make a fool out of myself in the water box. :D

I've got important Demo Derby plans for the 17th.

I will be in town that weekend, for the first time in a while.

Shane and eveyone else Interested: I'm heading to US41 July 7th. Its a wednesday. I plan on leaving around 5 or 6pm. Wednesday's are great because the track is dead. Basically no one there. You can hot lap your car all night if you want to. I get the best times out of my car by hot lapping it.

So hopefully we can get a few people together, meet at walmart and go.
Just post up.

I'll be there. I get off @ 4:00 so I can be there about 5:00 or so.

Score, figured that was the one since it's the closest to where we're going. But it's also good because it's like a minute from my house.

Question: Is it gonna matter if I put like 100 miles on my car that day? I assume it won't affect my performance at all, assuming that the engine has plenty of time to rest in between.

But to be truthful that should be the least of my worries because it's going to be my lack of driving experience that slows me down.

Is it gonna cost anything to go the track? And are there any rules at this track?

Do I need a helmet, must have back seats, etc? I know IRP has some strange rules, so I'd like to know.

hellbird79
06-29-2004, 08:18 PM
back seats not needed, helmet if your running 12's is when they will say anything.

bezersbaby83
06-29-2004, 08:18 PM
Its $20 to run I believe unless they have changed that. From what I hear US41 is pretty easy on the tech. Not sure what the cut-off is on needing a helmet but your stock SS won't come anywhere near it I am sure of. Hell I won't even be close enough to see it myself, haha. As far as the back seats, you don't need them. Some people go up with a completely gutted interior (ie: drivers seat only and no carpet just to name a few deletions)

Ru2n00n3er
06-29-2004, 08:34 PM
I was planning on taking out the spare tire/jack/rear seats. I think the rear seats are easy to take out. How easy is it to take out the passenger seat? And is there anything else I can do to save weight? I plan on running low on gas, but that's all I've thought up.

bezersbaby83
06-29-2004, 08:37 PM
Well I took out my spare tire and jack, but leave my interior totally as it came from the factory. I think it would be a little silly to tear your interior apart while running a stock car.

Ru2n00n3er
06-29-2004, 08:45 PM
There are only like 4 bolts that hold the entire rear seat in. 2 for the bottom and 2 for the rear seat back, so that should be pretty easy enough to take out. But I haven't tried it, so who really knows. And it's not like I actually use the rear seats in normal driving anyway.

bezersbaby83

ClarksZ06
06-29-2004, 08:52 PM
I would take out any weight that you can. You would be surprised how much it helps. 100 lbs makes a differene.

As far as rules, US 41 doesn't have any. Bring $20 to race and your good to go all evening.

Ru2n00n3er, watch out for the manimal!!!!!!!

Huh? Only thing I can think up is a reference to the manual 6-speed? And yeah I'm not expecting great things first time out.

And I don't know how hard it would be to pull the passenger seat, so that's why I don't kow if I'll do that. I might not end up pulling any weight and just simply use this trip to get better at driving. Once I get good I'll pull some weight and see what times I can get.

ClarksZ06
06-29-2004, 09:09 PM
Its to hard to explain the manimal, you will just have to wait and see. He's a man and a animal, thats why we call him the manimal.

As far as driving goes, you will have the best luck by revving the car up to 2-2.5 k rpm and doing a quick clutch slip and feathering the throttle until you can go full throttle and not spin.

Make sure you stay in the near lane (closest to the stands) , the other lane is always slick and you will never hook up.

bezersbaby83
06-29-2004, 09:10 PM
Nope, the Manimal is this big hairy guy with a nasty attitude that works the starting line at US41.

would anyone be up for helping with slapping on my new exhaust manifold on the day of the 7th before track time? an impact drill would be helpful, but its pretty straightforward removal/install. if so, i could go then too because i'll probably be in town anyway. i'll be out of town until then so i won't be able to do it this week..

Ha...this post is funny.

1st of all, Ru2n00n3er, you MUST trailer your car to the track. This is what Clark and Alex do and they have the most bad-ass C5's around, so I would suggest following their leads. Especially if you have all-out race cars like them, it is required.

2nd: Bezerkid...you have a bolt-on LS1 with a CAM and you're hoping to hit 12's????? Shit...if you DON'T hit 12's, you need to sell that thing ASAP. Cars like mine and Neils start out at 225hp FLYWHEEL, that's under 200rwhp...almost 100rwhp less than what LS1's have stock. We have to do heads/cam/intake just to get to that level and we're still at a 44 cubic inch disadvantage. I ran 12.8 @ 108.7 in my car and I would never expect to beat a cammed LS1.

3rd: US41 no longer holds sactioning by the IHRA. True tech is a non-issue...but NHRA rules say that if you run 13.99 or faster...you must wear a helmet. I was running 12's last time there and never put a helmet on my head. Just wanted to pass that info on. Also...you can remove your backseat, but NHRA rules state you must have a separator from the cockpit to the rear bulkhead. Look into this rule more because I know it exists but don't know exactly what it covers.

And oh yeah...the last few times I've been to US41...Manimal has not been there. I don't know if he only works specific days, but there is a blond lady running the staging lanes there that is pretty cool and knows her shit. Just listen to her and you'll be ok.

I should be there to meet you guys right at 5:00. I'll go home get the car and be there. Should be some good racing. I'm going for a 110 trap speed. If I don't get it might do some on the fly mods to my car.

Is there any rules on haveing my laptop hooked up in the car during runs? I'd like to monitor what my car is doing.

So instead of driving it home and burning a valve, we unpluged the fuel injector so it ran on 7 cyclinders on the way home. Both sides are now patched and the car is ready to go.

First of all, when Aaron and I trailed my SS and his Cobra up there is was because we were fucking open headered cars, running on Mickey Thompsons!! Oh yeah, I also was running skinnies with no sway bar. Never trailered our C5s to the dragstrip. I don't give a fuck how cool you think you are, but driving a car an hour like this is neither fun nor safe. Do you have M/Ts? Do you run open headers, or run skinnies? Do you remove the swaybar? No? Then shut the fuck up, and keep your slow POS car on the street where it belongs.

Take these two complete sentences:

Fucker!

When I read this post aloud to myself, I say one in an angered, threatening manner, and another in a joking, "townie" manner. Can you tell which one is which? I didn't think so. About the only thing that conveys vocal inflection are smilies... and we don't use them enough.

EXACTLY! I don't understand why its a big deal to trailor your car. Alex has always run his cars hard and as more and more of us are seeing, things break. If Alex ended up taking his trailor up to the track and he had the other spot on the trailor open and one of you broke something you would all be up his ass to get trailored back home. Would anyone be intereted in hittig up IRP sometime here shortly? ...I'm thinking there'll probably be an outing to IRP in the near future for a few of us, and it'd be cool to get a pretty good sized group out there....

Getting a good sized group wouldn't be so tough to do if you didn't piss most people off most of the time. And no one cares about your buddies truck. I don't care if it runs 4's at 315Mph...it's still your buddies truck. And regardless of how fast it really is, it's still a truck.

You know what Aaron...

Be race my buddy for pink slips...I'd love to see you cry when you're little Z06 loses to a fuckin truck...

You may talk a mean game, but I wanna see you back it up against a guy who spent less than half of what you spent on that car of yours.... Luke, my father, and I went to Hooters with this guy, so to say he's a buddy means just that.... I can't wait until he spanks the living shit out of you....

I've got 200 on him in a race...You man enough to back that up?

HAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAASHA LOLOLOL LMFAO

The time I was at the track and Aaron was there and broke his IRS in the Cobra...he was racing on 17" BFG's. I'd almost put money on that. If he went again another time with M/T's, then I wasn't there and didn't know about it.

As for the whole trailer thing...if I had access to one and needed it, I would use it. But to me, half the fun is DRIVING up there in the first place. Especailly like back in the day when we had huge caravans of 15+ cars headed up...made the trip up very fun :)

Aaron did break his axle with the BFG's on the car... and techically I don't think it was open headers. I think it was open H/X pipe. ;)

Alex you better bring the trailor to the track rental.... ;)

Hey Curt, I've got this buddy(John Shepherd), well I have his cell phone number, his car's kinda fast. How about we set up a race for pink slips between my buddy and yours. How will his stockish Z06 beating truck like getting his ass handed to him by a mid 8 second four cylinder in street trim?

This is pointless.

FYI Dipshit... Aaron doesn't have to back ANYTHING up. He never called out your "buddy". He merely pointed out that you're still the same assplug that you've always been. "man enough to back that up"? I mean seriously, where do you get this shit? So far the only backing up of anything has been you backing up the point that you talk through your bingo shooter wayyyyyy more then is necessary!

Hey Curt, word for the not too wise, have you ever thought that your "buddies" would get quite pissed off at you for setting up races for them with people they didn't know? If it was me... I'd be quite pissed. I think someone needs to agree so that Curt can tell his "buddy" that he's racing the truck he just put 18months (example) worth of time into for slips.

Rule of thumb: if you're gonna talk shit, you better be able to back it up with your own car/truck, otherwise, you are a tool.

Jesus Curt, for the last time... don't set up races with a buddy... handle your own affairs yourself. Everyone has a buddy that has a car faster then someone... but you know what, no one gives a fuck because it isn't THEIR car.

I've got a buddy that has a high 8/low 9 second car, do you hear me trying to set up races for him, no. Why cus it's not place place to, and I don't want to look like an idiot by doing it.

How about you keep to racing your stuff, and leave your friends out of it. UmKay?

Jermey- I don't feel like arguing. Curt is more than enough for everyone to deal with. Not that I'm comparing you to Curt. That would just be mean and wrong.
No hard feelings bud, I just think I deserve a bit more respect. If you knew half the shit i've broken lately you would be advising me to trailor the car to the track. :)
Are you going to be able to show up to race wednesday evening be chance?
And yes I do remember the good ol car club days when we drove up to the track in 15+ car style. It was an absolute blast.

Two questions before tomorrow.

1. I'm trying to remove my rear seat. I've gotten the seats themselves unbolted but the upper portion of the rear seat is still held by the seat belt bracket. I just want to take the seats out for tomorrow and then put them back in so I don't want to start hacking off brackets or to much stuff. There are screws that hold on the bracket to the seat but I don't have anything that will let me take those screws out, thus allowing me to remove the seat back. Would anyone know how to accomplish this/be able to help me with it before we leave tomorrow? I only live like 2 minutes from Walmart if someone would know how to help me out.

2. I'm also thinking about dropping the tire pressure in my rears so that I can get better traction. I've been told to drop them to ~25 psi. My question is does someone have a pressure guage so that I can drop them to that point when we get there? And where can I get air put back in the tires after tomorrow, because I don' t want to be normally driving like that. Does someone have an air compressor or would a gas station have something I could use.

Thanks for the help guys. I'm out of class at 8:30 tomorrow so if someome wants to give me a call they can, 317-509-9331. I have to go to Tipton after class but I should be back home around noon or so if someone could help.

1. Someone will most likely bring basic tools to the track where you could pull your seats with some help. Should be pretty easy.

2. Don't lower your tire pressure below normal range unless you have drag radials or slicks. You will have no better traction, trust me. It will slow you down on the top end due to the higher drag the underinflated tire will be giving you. Just show up at the Wal-mart with your car in normal street trim, and there will be plenty of people around to help you out/give advice throughout the evening. It sounds like you are worrying a little too much about it. Just go and have a good time. :D

If I remember correctly the upper part is held in by Torx fasteners... the size is about a T35... maybe... I think. Taking this off is no big deal... you won't break anything and it will bolt right back in once you're done.
