For our 7th anniversary we traveled to Lexington, Kentucky.  Our original plans to visit Mt. Rushmore had to be changed at the last minute due to Vicki having problems with her back and afraid she wouldn't be able to handle all the walking, hiking, and biking we intended to do there.  The Kentucky Horse Park was a destination we had planned to take sometime over a long weekend so we did some more research, made some reservations, hooked up the pop-up (on loan from Vicki's sister for the summer), and headed on our way.  We headed out Friday, the 5th stopping in Indy to drop the dogs at Camp Bow Wow for the weekend  and arrived at the Kentucky Horse Park campground late afternoon.  It was obvious this was not a recreational campground as there were no trails or amenities other than a couple of shower houses. Most of the campers that weekend had horses and/or show dogs. We set up the camper, metal detected around the camp site, went for a scenic drive, then came back and and grilled out for dinner.

Saturday, the 6th, we went into the Kentucky Horse Park and spent pretty much the entire day checking out the different exhibits and museums and watching the featured dog and horse shows. Our favorites were the Hall of Champions where you watched a short video about a champion race horse which included exciting clips from their winning races and then the horse himself was led in.  We also loved the sheep herding competition where owners had dogs herd sheep through marked gates and into a corral using only whistle commands. The whole place is pretty amazing and we learned more than we realized we would appreciate about horses. That evening, grilled steak for dinner and a nice campfire ended a pretty awesome day.

Sunday, the 7th, we loaded up the GPS and went geocaching but after logging a couple finds gave up on the rest after finding ourselves in some unsavory parts of town.  We did have a pretty nice drive through  the rolling countryside and saw more white wooden fences, stone fences, and Ford F250 trucks then ever before. We went back into the Horse Park, but there wasn't anything new for us there and when we realized the rest of the day would probably be spent just sitting around (something that is nice to do when we actually go camping for a weekend, but not how we had planned to spend this anniversary) we instead decided to pack up and just head home.  The trip to and the day at the Kentucky Horse Park was actually pretty awesome and the vacation would have been a success if we could have found something to do that Sunday or if we could have been content relaxing and doing nothing.  It was just so different than our original plans for Mt. Rushmore, which were cancelled unexpectedly at the last minute and kinda left Vicki in a funk.

We got home late that night and Monday, the 8th, drove back into Indy to pick up the dogs.  This was our actual anniversary day and we just spent the day relaxing.... together.  Don't know why that wasn't good enough for us yesterday.  In the end, we marked another year together. Whether it was how we planned to celebrate it or not, that is really all that actually matters.
